My Dilemma.......

I own an '04 Fabia VRS with 53k miles on it.

I have around £250+ burning a hole on my pocket and want to do something to my car that will improve it. It's currently standard aside from the PD160 intake and Pipercross air filter

The options I feel I have are:

Upgrade front brakes

Fit RARB

Refurb wheels to anthracite

Go for the Shark Group buy remap

Now, I don't drive like a loon all of the time and am yet to find the limits of handling on my car, therefore, improvements such as the RARB and brakes may not be totally worthwhile.

I do try and get the most MPG from my little VRS and as such spend most of the time eeking out as much mileage from a tank as possible. It's not going well. On the long term computer MPG it reads 38.4mpg. From calculations in 2429 miles I have used 342.61 litres, giving an actual MPG of 37.98. Will a remap help to improve this as well as making the engine more useable?

The wheels are a purely cosmetic item. My current wheels aren't in bad shape, but if I do go down the refurb route I'd have them coloured differently (my Furby's Red.)

So, what's the general consensus of opinion? Where do I place my money?

Hi Stunts

I would go for the remap

Bit more fun if you need it and safer overtaking

But if you drive it sensible you will get more mpg

I don't have a remap, but a tuning box and since fitting getting about 3 to 4 mpg better, apart from the first month were I just enjoyed the extra power !

Hope this helps

Karl

A remap will totally change the car. It will put a smile on your face and it will be hard to take it away.

Other than that, the RARB is another great mod to do, even at a later date.

What ever you decide to go for, your making the furby better. You can't go wrong with any of those mods!

37MPG is very low for a vRS, I get approx 45MPG and that's driving it like a tit for about 30% of the time.

Maybe you should put the money towards sorting out your fuel consumption before considering any mods?

Having said that, mines booked in for a remap on Friday which I am looking forward to A LOT.

I say RARB. It's removable, you can have the satisfaction of fitting it yourself as it's easy as pie. Plus it completely changes the car. And if you have a nice insurer it'll only add peanuts to the cost compared to a remap.

Otherwise the brakes. They feel a lot nicer than the standard ones, and should last longer so you can save some money on replacing the discs and pads :D

My choices may be biased as I can't afford a remap though ;)

id go for the remap, the offer thats on at the moment is just too good to miss!

Ive just fitted the rarb and im amazed in the difference, so ive voted rarb.

Buy the RARB and get the remap. :)

I voted for RARB BTW but these things are subjective. I think remap would make you too aware of the standard suspension limitations. So RARB first, then remap.

You could also ask Shark if they'll do you the group buy price in a few months. Maybe give them a deposit on it now?

J.

You won't noramlly be able to get a good re-map for £250, so go for the Shark GB while you can IMO.

Thanks for the input all. I think I may go for the remap and then save some pennies for the RARB.

As bad luck would have it, my Furby's in with Wayside Skoda today for a service. The sump plug has been cross threaded by a ham fisted spannerer. Bye-zy-bye £170..... :'(

I know I can get it done cheaper elsewhere, but the damage is done and I can't move the car. Anyhoo - I'll probably end up signing up for the GB in the end. That should improve my MPG when Driving Miss Daisy
