Fabia Faulty fuel gauge

Featured Replies

My 1.2 105 has just passed 4000miles mark and the fuel gauge has given up the ghost. No probs me thinks I`ll keep an eye on the maxidot with miles to next refuelling......only no I cant, cos that bit of of the computer has also stopped working. Got it booked into the dealer for Saturday morning, but Sunday I`m off with it for a weeks motoring holiday :'( ..

My thoughts are sender unit u/s, although not on such a new car surely??...anyone got any ideas...thanks

Quick update......Been checked by the dealer today and `The tank needs an adjustment` which apparantly in laymans terms means it needs a software download to kick start the fuel gauge....so they tell me...However, and this is the bit I`m sceptical about, this download can only be done whilst the fuel tank has less than 9 litres of fuel remaining...As I`m going away with it next week its booked into Underwoods of Colchester to actually do and they didnt mention any low fuel requirement when I rang up..We shall see shall we not!!

Any thoughts please???? :'(

Could be that they have to drain the tank, so the less they have to drain (and refill) the quicker it takes...?

Hi, late addition, but I've got similar problem with a non-moving fuel gauge at moment.

I found this info from my research, Jetta/Golf ,  which seems fairly relevant to Skoda Fabia/Roomster  [which shares a lot with VW chasis].

It seems the VCDS software will check for faults in the 17-Instruments controller section,  and that would show a fault with the display gauge.  Then,  there are some adjustments that can be made to electronically adjust the level of the fuel gauge.  The jist of the procedure is to get the fuel tank at the point of the top of red warning indicator level [about 9 litres].  Then apply some adjustment to the level of the fuel 'needle' in the gauge,  to set it to the red warning level.  It will only permit around +/- 10% adjustment.

The VCDS also gives a capability to check the resistance of the rheostat on the fuel sender, in the fuel tank [without dismantling half the rear end of the car,  or fiddling with a wiring diagram and pulling electrical connectors].

Dana @ Ross-Tech   says  for a  2010 Golf 6 GTI DSG,
"A Full tank should read near 70Ω. Empty tank = 270Ω. You could check the actual resistance with a DVOM at the fuel level sensor in the tank -OR- By using Advanced Measuring Values, check "Fuel Level Sensor 1" (138)."

One assumes the values are similar for Fabia/Roomster,  but thats just an assumption.

Hope that helps someone. Bill.
