Laptop Batteries

Featured Replies

Hi,

Can I replace my 14.8v battery on my laptop with an 11.1v battery?

Thanks!

Yes but it won't work!

Seriously though, you'll need one with the same voltage but the ampage (how long it'll work for) can be different.

Thanks for the reply.

Hmmm, well, that makes buying a battery pointless! they're nearly as much as a new laptop! :(

Check out ebay - most new lappie batteries can be sourced for less than £30...

Just to throw a spanner in the works, there are some laptops from around 10 years ago which support both NiMH and Li-ion batteries, which are typically around 14-15V and 10-11V respectively. What make and model of laptop is it?

Stick your laptop model into ebay and see what turns up, unless you have some esoteric you should come across something easily. I have bought a couple of replacement batteries from ebay without any trouble.

I am after a new battery for my laptop. I have seen them on the net and most of them are 10.8v and not 11.1v as on the back of battery pack. The new ones have slightly more capacity as well. Will these batterys work OK?

BTW, it's a Medion MD96640.

If they're specified for your exact model, then they should be OK - the higher capacity just means they'll take a bit longer to charge, but also last longer in use. The slightly different nominal voltages just reflect two slightly different Li-ion cell chemistries; in practice they should be equivalent.
