Engine Light

Featured Replies

.. Just wondering if this is the EPC light as mentioned in the pinned thread above?

Would a Track Rod Arm be the cause of it being on? or is it something serious?

I need a wheel bearing and Track Rod Arm, just wondering if this is why its on?

Thanks

Yes thats the CEL (Check engine Light) and no, nothing in the steering or suspension will cause it to come on. Time for a code scan.

Although they wont do functions like comfort modules, a generic code scanner can be had for £40

This one from Gendan is a nice little unit, does Engine, Auto Trans,ABS, Airbags

Yup, have the more expensive version of the one MoggyTech's suggested, which scans a few more things, and will output the code definition (instead of the code) - worth the money, IMHO. :)

I'd second the sub£40 Gendan VAG code reader - just be aware that you might need to surf the web a bit to find a "full" copy of the VAG fault codes, by the way, if your car has "EPC" then it will have an EPC legand coming up in that pod when you switch the ignition on.

Hi, The EPC light comes on only on Ignition.

Not when Driving.

I'm getting it check maybe next friday.

Wait for Payday and ask a friend of a friend to VagCom it.

Er, it's meant to do that! Comes on when ignition turned on, and goes off when started.

Agreed, the light comes on when you turn the ignition on as a system test. As long as it goes out and stays out after you have started the engine then there is nothing wrong, it is doing what it is intended to do.
