wireless problem

Featured Replies

Not sure what is going on, but my pc won't connect to the bt homehub here despite having the correct wep key.... My phone and other computers connect fine. Any ideas? It says limited connectivity. Running on vista.

Limited connectivity would suggest it's connected, but not got internet access.

I'm wondering if maybe the DNS settings are wrong? Can you ping the homenhub once it says limited connectivity?

It can't seem to find host.oddly I tried installing the same belkin wireless dongle on my vcds laptop and it does the same. I wonder if the dongle is having issues?

Well. I've. Been out and bough a new dongle and its still doing it.....

Not sure if applicable to your bt homehub, but check the encryption setting (WPA2 / WPA etc. and either TKIP or AES) to make sure the laptop network connection setting is the same as the homehub. I'm using a netgear and that can be configured to only allow connections from selected network/wireless cards and dongles using the dongle's MAC address. So check the hub settings for this too. Has the Belkin dongle ever been connected to the homehub before?

Its never had any issues in past two years. Going to try a hard reset of the home hub. Then no idea after that.

Well, resetting the home hub did the trick. Still not too sure why this worked as other machines were connected to it fine. Oh well, gained a £20 2nd wireless dongle now....

Limited connectivity is normally IP address related. Glad it's all sorted now.

Yep, I would have suggested looking to see what IP address the NIC had. If it had a 169.x.x.x one then that would suggest windows had made it up because it wasn't getting a proper connection to the BT HH.

However as all is now working I'll stay quiet!

If there are other Homehubs in your vicinity, it could be Channel interference. If it happens again, go into the Homehub (192.18.1.254)and click on "Wireless" you will see that it is set to Automatic as default. Change to Manual and try Chan. 1 for starters. Go through the Channels one by one until you find one that works. Could take days to find a Channel that stays on. Just trial and error I'm afraid.
