Activating 2nd rear fog?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Apologies if this subject has been done to death but i've not managed to find a thread about it!! I'm picking up my VRs DSG estate on 16th March so asked the dealer to activate a few things like anti-hijack etc. I also asked them to activate the 2nd rear fog & cornering fogs. The reply i got was that they couldn't do that, not possible!! Do you need Zenons with the cornering headlights for the cornering fogs, as i've only got the standard halogen headlights or are they just being lazy?

I also asked them to make sure the wheel alignment was all correct before I picked it up & was told that they could do that, but it would cost me £60! Bit cheeky seeing that there are issues with the alignment & it should be sorted before I collect it!!

Any advice on the cornering fogs would be most welcome &anything else that might be worth getting switched on before i pick it up!

cheers

Mark G

Dealer correct - facelift models can't activate the second rear fog and IIRC cornering front fogs do require the Xenons. (IGNORE - read later posts!)

I asked for the daytime running lights to be activated on mine, but you can do that yourself via Maxidot - provided you have it fitted.

As for wheel alignment; I took mine to a place which did the lazer geometry and sure enough the rear foot was out beyond tolerance - car only had 200 miles on the clock at this stage. It cost me just shy of £50 and I was advised to get it checked again after 6 months, once the suspension etc. has settled down. The specialist centre I used in Edinburgh also gave me a printout of all the settings so I can refer to them next time to see what, if anything, has changed after 10k is on the clock.

I wouldn't bother spending the money at a dealer but rather go to a specialist with the lazer kit.

Hope you enjoy your new wheels!

Ask them in writing to check the alignment is within tolerance as part of the PDI and provide a printout of the settings, as it is a known issue on the Golf MkV platform. If they refuse to do it then ask them to put this in writing as well.

Then respond to that to the effect that any uneven tyre wear and suspension alignment issues within the first 12 months you will be holding them liable for as they cannot evidence that the settings were correct when you collected the car from them.

They won't have a leg to stand on if you need 2 new rear tyres and a geometry check after 6 months!!

Cornering fog lights can be activated on cars with either halogen or xenon headlights.

Some claim to have been able to activate the second rear fog on facelift Octavia's but it is certainly more difficult (if not impossible) than it is with the pre-FL models.

There is a factory fit option for cornering fogs and thats probably what the dealer is getting in a kerfuffle about.

Tell them that you don't want the mechanical cornering fogs, just the conering fogs activated by VCDS.

I have them and I don't have xenons.

If you order xenon headlights as a factory fit option you also get AFS II.

This feature alters the beam length and turns the headlight beam as you go round corners.

Cornering fog lights is a seperate feature and as you'd expect uses the front fog lights down in the lower part of the bumper. Although not activated on some pre-facelift cars they can be enabled on most if not all facelift Octavia's (whether you have xenons or not).

At low speeds and/or if an indicator is turned on the fog light lights up and then turns off once you straighten the wheel or the indicator is cancelled.

Either way, the dealer is wrong, cornering fog lights can be enabled on your 2009 FL vRS. They just don't know how

I managed to activate them on my 2007 Octavia.

Just find someone with VCDS to do it for you.

I don't think £60 is enough for a full alignment to be honest. I would want the full geometry check as the Octavia is terrible for alignment issues.

After coming to the conclusion that FL models can't activate the second rear fog, it turns out you can?

Is there a thread that explains how?

How do you know? Has someone here mentioned they've done it? I must have missed it...

I second that, for sixty quid you're just gonna get mugged off for a toe change/check - the Octavia has more points of adjustment than that :)

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated.

I'll get on to the dealer about the cornering fogs & put them straight about them & also have another go about the alignment check as I want to know that it's good to go when i pick it up.

Cheers again
