Fabia 1.4mpi Rocker cover crack

Featured Replies

Hi all,

During a routine inspection, I noticed the moment I took the engine cover off that there was oil underneath...

...Looks like there's a crack in the rocker cover.

Firstly, any ideas on how much it'll cost to repair? Obviously popping the rocker cover off is easy enough to do - so parts really.

Secondly...

...How safe am I to drive it in the meantime till I get a part? Obviously tomorrow is work day...

Answers ASAP would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Easy temp fix, clean cover and stick a bit of duct tape over the crack, there's no oil pressure in the top end so it will hold for some time. No idea of price, scrappy would be best bet, as VAG bits that are not common to factors tend to be well over priced. Perfectly safe to drive, although PCV system will be blowing a bit.

There is no PCV system, it simply vents via the pipes near the oil filler to the throttle body. I agree it should be okay to drive but should ideally be sorted ASAP.

Are you sure it is not just the rocker cover gasket? I find it extremely hard to believe a piece of cast aluminium at the top of a 1.4mpi has cracked of its own accord, something must have given it a serious whack in the past.

The rocker covers on the 1.3 Favorits and Felicias look very much the same as the 1.4 mpi, although cannot say with any certainty if they are interchangeable. They are all based on the same engine design though so probably are.

Definitely cracked... Right at the top around the rocker cover nut... Looks like someone in the past has attempted to over-tighten it, but the nut itself does seem pretty loose. Rocker cover seems a little warped at the top...

I would have thought considering the heads of the 1.4mpi are nearly the same as the favorits and the fellys that it'd be easy enough to be pretty much interchangable...

In the meantime i'll stick some duct tape on the top of it to prevent any further leaking and scout out for a replacement cover.

(if anyone has any spares i'd be interested ;))

Cheers guys
