Bolero

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if a Bolero taken off a FL Octy works on a non FL Octy which currently has the Audience with the 12 speaker system fitted on it without any mods to the wiring ?.Both Bolero and Audiece have a 6 disc built in changer but I do no not like the illumination of the Audience, the Bolero takes an SD card, illuminates nicer, touch screen and looks more modern than the Audience, there's a Bolero for a good price on Fleebay but I don't want end up buying something which won't work in my car.Already had problems when tried one of these chinese GPS integrated stereo in my car,the Maxidot didn't read it,no sound came out and it only worked with the ignition switched on.

I had a Bolero from an FL fitted in my pre-FL, it is technically plug and play, but I did have issues with the screen brightness not reacting to day light, basically during the day I couldn't see it, I know other members have fitted them without problems though, so maybe I was just unlucky. One thing you may need to do depending on the age of your car is upgrade the gateway, anything older than a revision 'K' and the Bolero will remain on permanently thus draining the battery.

Also I had to modify the aerial as the Stream is a single input and the Bolero is twin, not sure about the Audience though.

HTH, Lee.

By the way, how much is the one on the bay?

Hi Lee,price is around £ 200,there are still4 days left and 8 bids so I presume the price will go up more. What do you mean by gateway revision K ?.How would I know what type is it ?.Mine is an early 07 car.Regarding the antenna mine is a single socket ?,what did you do to plug it to the twin Bolero socket ?.Do you reckon it will work since my car's got the factory amp and 12 speakers ?.

Mine went in no bother and to date have no battery drain issues - this thread is useful

The gateway is the box thats runs the show in the car, I would say that if your car is an early 07 plate then you may need to upgrade the gateway. The way to find out the revision, by that I mine the model is either get someone with VCDS (previously VAG-COM) to plug in to your car, from this they could tell you, alternatively physically find the gateway and have a look. Mine was behind the glove box so it only took about 10 minutes to access, in later cars its behind the steering column which makes things a bit more difficult but not impossible.

As I said previously the Bolero is plug and play, it will work no problem with your set up, but you will not get the full range of features with it, for example, when you adjust the climatronic it won't display on the HU, and iirc it doesn't work fully with maxidot!

Tbh, mine was only in a week before I refitted the Stream, it didn't offer me any more than the Stream apart from looking good, and the display issue bothered me to much.

Personally I would check which gateway you have first because if it needs upgrading you are looking a 70-85 quid for that on the bay or other forums (stealers ask £149!!). And do some digging on here, I have posted quite a bit on the subject including when I first swapped HU's. Bolero's are always cropping up so don't worry if you miss the one you are watching, price wise, they go for anything between £150-£250.

What year is your car Paul - you were in a 'loaner' when you popped round?

Mine is a 55 Plate, 2006MY and has a revision E gateway. (or maybe F, can't remember).

Anyone, I have connected a Bolero this weekend and at first didn't seem to suffer with the overnight battery drain that others experienced.

BUT

Leave it overnight and until lunchtime the next day and Bingo! Flat Battery!

As for the dual antenna sockets - is one used for the radio and the other for TIM? I have seen posts somewhere for the FAKRA splitter when fitting a Columbus - can anyone point me in the right direction for getting one of these splitters?

Thanks

Cheers Mike - as usual, more than helpful.

Will need to be round your way in a couple of weeks to drink more tea and swap my CAN gateway out emoticon-0100-smile.gif

You'll have to let me know what your taste in beer is emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Can anyone give me some indication of the part number of this gateway or some pics so I would know what I'll be looking for when I dismantle the glove box ?.

Just looked up in ETKA,according to the VIN my car has part number 1K0907530Q.Has mine the correct one fitted then ?.

The issue you will have is the 12 speaker system, I am not sure the bolero can control it because the 12 speaker system is controlled via canbus and was discontinued before the bolero was released. You'll not get a chinese headunit working either, without totally rewiring the speaker setup and bypassing the amp under the seat as these have no canbus control at all.

Your main choices that are known to work are: Columbus and Audience.

If that's correct then its a revision 'Q' which should be fine, it was older than 'K' that will have problems. Tbh, I would still want to check with VCDS or have a look just to be 100%.

Rev Q will be OK. IIRC, Simbo upgraded to a Q when his Columbus went in...

Andy, one aerial connector is MW, the other is FM.

This is the FAKRA splitter I got for my Columbus, and from this seller. Works brilliantly.

Thing is you can buy a new FL Octavia with a Bolero and 12 speaker set up but somewhere here is saying that it won't probably work on mine due to a different canbus or whatever. So my main question is has anyone fitted a Bolero in a pre FL octavia equipped with the sound system without any wiring mods, apart from the gateway and antenna adaptor ?.Don't want to spend 200 quid on something I won't be able to use.

Whereabouts in the country are you?

I live in Malta ....

Whereabouts in the country are you?

Agreed, Malta gets a  from me too!

But a  in terms of checking Bolero compatibility. As mine's out at the moment, while I get around to putting in the CAN upgrade, you could have tried it to see if it worked

  • Author

Thumbs down because if you like to go for a drive in your car Malta is not the ideal place,no country roads or motorways or tracks or anything, just cars, cars and cars and more cars eveywhere,a bloody 8 km journey to work takes 30 minutes each day.Other than that we have such beautiful climate, friendly people and some nice places to visit.

  • Author

Exactly, think it's a bit of a hassle to drive 3000 miles to the UK to see if it works :giggle:

Ive got a pre fl octy vrs on a 57 plate and it had the stream fitted from new and ive fitted the bolero without any wirring mods the only thing i had to get was the arieal splitter, i even coded it in using vagcom. It all works as it should without any issues at all, even my standard autochanger works. (you do loose climate display and rear parking sensor display but thats it) and its been in for about 9 months. sound quality is also a lot better than the stream in my opinion.

But main concern is the no sound coming out since my car has the 12 speaker system when I am assuming yours has the 8 speaker system since it had the stream head unit.Had a similar problem trying to fit one of these chinese GPS's,it worked fine in my friend's Elegance which had the stream and 8 speakers but when i tried it on mine no sound whatsoever came out.And the climate display and parking sensors are the least of my display since my car has none of these :giggle: ... Will the bloody thing produce any sound as I am desperate to have the head unit replaced for something more modern ?.

Yes the car I came around in was on loan from the press office at Skoda. Mine's a 58 and it's been plug and play with no issues.

For general info, seeing as you have VCDS - can you list the revision number of your CAN gateway. Should build up a better picture for prospective upgraders that way

Cheers,

  • 1 year later...

Can anyone using the aerial splitters confirm whether they remove the 'Open circuit - Antenna X not connected'' fault on the HU with a VCDS scan?
