We had all the panels under the steering column off and around the dash pod, this gives much better access. We couldn't work out how the compartment on the top of the dash should come out, but there is a void above the radio which looks like it could possibly provide the required space - although I wasn't so sure.

Sorry to reopen an old(ish) thread! What are people's experiences of the way that the Bolero unit handles phonebook information with bluetooth. My phone connects fine, but whilst the phone book is fine whilst viewed and used via Maxidot, the Bolero's version of the phone book is very messed up.
