Advice on Picking brake discs & pads fabia vrs

Featured Replies

Eurocarparts website :wall:

Suggests that a 256mm disc is appropriate for a Fabia VRS! It also offers the 288mm ones. At least that's an obvious choice. On the brake pad front, it offers two different (at least) pad shapes. There are notes/restrictions that should point one in the right direction. However, it's not immediately obvious and the website lists all of the possibilities and appropriate... When they're not.

Don't buy on the website it is useless. Vindaloo, Ever heard of going to the shop in person and ordering over the counter? you know, the old fashioned way.

The only combinations I know of are 232mm rear discs (Solid) 288mm Vented front discs

Calipers C54 plain pads with no clips

Calipers FS III pads have retaining clips on the back

Easy to tell which caliper you have. If the caliper carrier is separate from the hub, it's the C54 caliper (Front calipers that is.)

Edit: Rear disc size corrected... :o

I have just had fitted pagid discs and pads all round. £115 from euro car parts for everything!

300 miles later and they have bedded in nicely.

Hope this helps.

How did you manage that? Did you get a discount or a sale price? Online, the disks themselves come to £110-£120.

...and it's a full Pagid setup?

Hmm sounds like I will have to check my callipers then to see which type I have, didn't realise there were two different types..

If I were to buy the upgraded brake set up, the 312mm is it? Would that just he for the front & standard 256mm at the back? Or do you get 312mm all round or..??

How long would you guys think it'd take a garage to fit front & rear? Don't know if my dads up to it & I'm certainly not brave enough to ;(

312mm upgrade is to the front only. Rears stay standard (70% braking is done by the front brakes) Complete brake overhaul 2 hours total provided nothing snaps like a caliper frame bolt etc.

Also worth noting that the standard rear brakes have a disc diameter of 232mm, not 256mm (which is an upgrade that can be fitted using Mk1 Octavis vRS rear brakes) :)

God I'm getting old, well spotted :D

Ahh ok, but as well as getting different sized discs I would also need bigger callipers? Is that right? I'm not sure whether to go for the upgrade or not, it seems like quite an expensive affair unless I can get used callipers

Yep, if you're going for the 312mm upgrade you'd need calipers and carriers from a Mk1 Octavia vRS, Audi TT 1.8T, Seat Leon Cupra or Mk4 Golf GTI, as well as discs and pads. Used caliper and carrier sets typically go secondhand for about £150 or so. It's a popular modification on the Fabia, with a pretty well proven success rate on here. I suppose it depends what sort of driving you do. If you feel the standard brakes are good enough, then why change? :)

On the other hand, I'm upgrading to the 312mm kit next month, and because mine isn't a vRS and has 256mm front brakes as standard, I've had to source the correct hubs as well. 256mm isn't really good enough for me any more :D

Hmm the kind of driving I'd like to do & the kind of driving I do (outside of work) are two different things lol i think I'll have a scout around for callipers & see how I get on. I might just stick to the standard size & get mintex, think I've talked my dad into fitting them for me too  thanks everyone for your replies :)

You need MDC979 discs and either MDB2294 pads (no wear indicators) or MDB2538 pads (with wear indicators).

Item 170547109703 - correct discs but wrong pads.
