approved used warranty ?

Featured Replies

So last may I purchased an 07 Fabia vrs from a Skoda dealer. Recently I have been having problems with the the revs sitting around 1400 rpm, after taking the car in for diagnostics at a cost of £65, they informed me my cam position sensor has failed and I need a new throttle pedal, and quoted appropriately £300 for the work. At this point I asked about my warranty, and was told id have to wait till Monday for them to call for authorisation. So my question is surely these two parts are covered under warranty, and if so should I have paid for the diagnostic. I was under the impression the approved used warranty was from Skoda now it would seem its just a warranty direct in different clothes.

They charged my mate the diagnostics also when his turbo went. You should have the booklet that lists all the parts not covered, check that and see what it says?

I’ve got a skoda approved used warranty with my 52 reg Octavia.

So far I’ve had 2 new breather hoses, new door lock, new starter motor and coil pack and not paid a penny. I dropped off the car with them, drove away in a loan car then picked it up when it was fixed.

The dealer sorted out all the stuff with the warranty claims.

If the parts are covered by warranty, I’d be very surprised if they try to charge you for the diagnostic work, after all, the warranty company won’t pay out unless you’ve had the fault diagnosed by a skoda dealer or other approved repairer, so you had no choice but to take it in for them to look at.

If both parts are covered by the warranty, I can’t see how they can justify charging you for the diagnostic work... I hope they haven’t taken any money off you yet.

Did you take it to a Skoda dealer?

A lot of these warranties depend on how good (or bad) your dealer is. Some feel compelled to go by the book on what SUK says has to be done. A good dealer, will value your custom, and cover things like diag scans IF they reveal a problem that is covered by warranty. More dealers need to recognise they can be flexible when it comes to warranty work.

these warranties aren't worth the paper their written on... read the small print, after you remove all the excluded items you'll find you don't have much of a car left

pretty sure throttle pedal is only £90 (ish) and is a doddle to fix youself

This tends to be the case, but you should check our Warranty Direct. Yes there is a £50 excess, but it even covers wear and tear, and work needed to get through an MOT. They also cover items not normally covered, eg a part damaged due to another item failing. Not cheap at about £300 a year, but you get what you pay for I guess.

Cheers guys, unfortunately I have already paid for the diagnostic and will find out Monday if the work is covered, and yes i took the car back to the dealer i purchased from, they didn't even mention the warranty and looked shocked when I reminded them it was under warranty.

While you need to be firm with them, as said, my mate had a new turbo, and a new intercooler from them. Its worth it, just need to be firm with them

oh i've been firm...

they wouldn't pay out a new clutch at 37k on my first fabia after i had it for a week!

my experience was more with ford... my st was actually going to end up driven through there front window....

i have no patience i am mega angry! ha

The couple of times I had my vrs in the dealers for a scan ( glowplugs and door switch) I was never charged for them to scan it which I thought I would be

Depends which dealer you go to IMO, some are spot on and really helpful and others are general arses and can't be bothered most of the time !

Funny you say that, a mate just had to pay for a new clutch on a 35,000 mile 59 plate st cos they class it's as wear and tear He wasn't pleased lol

Assuming they do replace the parts under warranty but won't refund the diag cost, you can always contact skoda warranty directly to see if they’ll refund it... nothing to loose.

I used another dealer for my warranty work as the supplying dealers workshop where useless... couldn't even fit new tyres without damaging the alloys.

Good luck n hope you get some good news on monday
