Hi. Released here in USA on Friday 11th. Rumour here is that, just like the original iPad launch, the UK launch may be delayed due to demand elsewhere.

Ebay is flooded with them aleady with the usual jacked up prices !

I was reading about some student who queued for 2 days for the ipad 2, then sold her place in the queue for $900. Genius!

Yes. That was at the store in New York. So it can pay to be patient sometimes.

I had high hopes for Carl starting this thread

Well I bet the Japanese who went there to get one are pleased they did, but otherwise seriously flying to a country to queue up to have a chance to have the latest fondleslab that will be replaced with another one in the not too distant future.

What is with these people?

Well iPad one is ****e, I have one, iPad 2 more of the usual apple sales bumf to purge the $$ ££ from the faithfull.

It's useful for upping the milk order, that's about it.

What do you not like about it fluffy?

I am seriously considering one for my netbook replacement, but I am unsure about getting a 1, a 2 or wait till crimbo for the 3.

.............ever feel like you have been had...? ;)

Well the UK price is extortionate, luckily I got mine from the US while on holiday.

My Dislikes

Flash support

Memory expansion (mine is 32GB)

Printing - Air print requires a "special" printer, you can't just print out to a Wi-Fi printer or to an SMB shared printer

Multitasking - Still not great, you have to switch out of applications when you get a notification

Movie Support - Crap unless everything is Quicktime, or you stick somthing like Buzzplayer on

I use it for the odd facebook post, but not much in the way of web browsing, the wife likes it for Solitaire HD and adding to her milk order from milk and more.

If there was a dedicated version of OSX For the iPad, then it would be a very very different story, but it's still IOS, so a ******ised OS that bridges the iPhone and iPad.

The best app I have found is the BBC iPlayer app, it's the only other thing I use it for. For less money you could get a really tidy netbook, with a decent drive and a couple of GB of RAM and a fully featured OS that you can print from, browse with etc etc.

IMHO iPad is a great tool held back by a mobile phone OS, but the same could be said of the Android based tablets, but there is a dedicated Tablet edition of Android on the way so why can't there be a dedicated OS for an iPad.

Over in Guernsey a few weeks ago there was a guy who on the day iPad 2 was announced stuck his iPad on Ebay because he had to have a "2", he said he has no interest in facetime, and his current iPad can run the same OS and iPad games are pretty pants, I don't buy into it as a gaming platform, but he has to have it?

So that's what I don't like about it, based on owning one, what's so "good" about it to make people want to shell out on the new version? What "so called" competition is it blowing into the weeds?

I am sure Apple is really concerned about the people who constantly put down their products but continue to buy them. A bit like Skoda, in that sense, I suppose. Not every product is ideal, or indeed suited, to everyone. However, I would reckon that the iPad could replace a laptop for 95% of the people on 95% of occasions. If you can't cope with that hypothesis try working out why Apple should be concerned when they have $95 billion dollars in cash holdings to prop up their business plan. Oh and if you are just anti American consider that it is a Brit, in fact an Englishman, who designed it. Or should I just quote Thumper and say, "if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all" Bugger, there goes free speech again. May have to start a thread on what sort of car Apple would come up with. Oh, and yes I am an interested party as I hold their shares. Disclosed in the interests of openness.

But how does it blow the supposed competition away?

Where did I say I was anti-American? I guess for criticising something I shelled out my own hard earned cash on I should have expected a knock on the door from jobs's pretorian guard.

I've struggled to understand what is the niche on an ipad (or tablets).

What do people use it for?

~ Its same features as a smartphone except for it has a bigger screen and minus the phone function. - Which I suppose it could be used as a glorified ebook reader.

~ Its not as fast or versatile as a netbook/notebook.

Ipads costs 2-3 times more than the 'equivalent' tablets? Why? (besides trend/brand/fashion statement)

It really has no competition when all the other tablet manufacturers can only manage about 15% of the market between them.

No one suggested you were anti American. It was a general comment often applied to Apple naesayers and not a personal one. By all means be critical of any product but unless, in it's niche, there is something better at least comment that it is the best of a bad bunch of tablets devices.

Does it do flash yet?

Is it finally compatable with the majority of video files?

Can you customise without jailbreaking?

Until it can do what I want it to do then I will not be getting one. I'm fed up of my piephone now as well, despite being jailbroken. WP7 for me next!

imho -

It really has no competition because majority of people who buy Iphones, Ipods and Itouches will also go and buy Ipads.

I really don't see many people will just go buy an Ipad without owning any of the previous I-products before.

Other tablet manufacturers are just attempting to muscle in on the 'ipad killer' market, NOT actually the tablet market.

I don't get tablets, not just the fruity ones. Look bloody awkward to hold if you ask me. I mean seriously the internet is for pR0n how are you going to hold a tablet steady? Or what you going to watch on an eye pad?

Thats why I am flogging mine to Pete and going to switch to a Netbook with a decent size SSD inside it. I need something that fit's between my Alienware and phone, the reason is that sometimes I don't need to use my own Alienware Laptop when onsite as I can use a customers workstation so the phone is to small to use for more than a few minutes and the Alienware to much to lug around.

When I am teaching, I have to use the Alienware so it's no contest. When the Mrs saw them in the Apple Store in Florida for the same price in $$ as we pay in ££ she wanted one and I thought I would use it to bridge the gap. I don't use it to bridge the gap however because some Wi-Fi hostpots it flatly refuses to connect to, I can't print from it, there's no flash support and you have to hold it while using it. Now I have weened the wife off it, it can be replaced with a netbook that suits my needs better (her needs are secondary, she has dishwashers and the like to play with).

For me, it's going to be easier for one handed hotel room surfing :) sit on the desk when I am on customer sites so I can get access to my mail accounts etc, and have a bit more freedom of choice with the OS and apps.

Tablets can be excellent for quick adhoc use, but it's a huge amount of cash to invest on something that will sit on the coffee table.

Our local council just invested £14k on iPads for all the town council members, it's to improve efficiency. At the time they bought the iPads they never researched the fact that they can't print from them without HP compatible air printers, and made the Toilet cleaners redundant and shut the public loo's in the park. So they have a £14k white elephant, a couple of people out of a job, and nowhere for w whizz other than behind the bushes :)

Well has to be said.. im going to get an ipad 2

have been considering the XOOM but its still too much of an unknown quantity.. i only really want to browse the web and chat while on my sofa or teather to android when away.

iPad (original) 16gb on Sale at your Local Makro for £249 + vat.

Four days to go. Looks like it will be launched over here on time. People are still queuing in the USA at any store they think may have them in stock. When will the first person start to queue in London? Will they sell their place in the queue like first in the queue did in New York. I believe it was sold for $900: their place in the queue that is.
