help before i go nuts

Featured Replies

i have removed the bumpstrips as they are being painted tomorrow and i need to know the best way to remove the junk tape/foam/stickyness that held them on, ive tried intensive tar remover, tar and glue remover, soapy water. im getting nowhere fast!!

im gonna go nuts as it just wont budge..

also whats my best bets for sticking them back on? 3m foam tape?

Did you not warm them up before removing them? my mates one had no issues when we did his...

As for re applying i used wabesto (tiger seal) to put them back on...

I wouldn't have taken them off, they're b;acl on a black car?

Now when they get hit in car parks paint will chip off...

i used petrol on mine this will dissolve the glue.and will not harm the paint work.bill

because the handles and recess are being done and im just fussy and like everything to match up....i dont like plastics tbh. and the real big reason is the £15 bill aha, too cheap to say no too. the guy works at my bros works bodyshop and because he know my brother he just does the painting real cheap. and matches the colour to the same paint as the car (or whatever colour i want)

i warmed them to an extent and pulled them off, keeping there shape. but this is tough stuff.

dont like the idea of silicon to put them back on, think i will use double sided tape.

You could ask your mate at body shop to take residue off with a 'fudge wheel'.

Body shops use them to remove the residue after badges when removed.

Or purchase one your self. It will go into the end of a drill.

Does not damage laquer at all.

went and bought a toffee wheel after trying all of the above, attached it to the drill and made very easy for of it. i know what to use in future.

I think you'll find that is does strip the paint.

Anyone now the best way to remove the rear spoiler (roof mounted) on the Fabia VRS. Is it stuck in place with double sided sticky?

It's bonded on with something like tiger seal. You need to cut through the seal with fishing line, or heat it and wedge if off slowly with something like an old credit card. Very easy to damage surrounding paintwork.

I would have used the Mrs's hair dryer. Heat it up and just rub off.

tried it, even had 2 hair dryers at one point to add extra heat.

Rub pure fabric softener on the sticky **** leave it about half an hour and scrape it off with the edge of a credit card, thats how i got my old sticky mess off

I was hoping that some one would try the pee idea, as I find the idea of someone actually peeing on there car very funny!
