Is it possible to retrofit Maxidot into a FL Octavia?

I know it can be done in a pre-FL and that you can buy a FL binnacle with Maxidot from www.skodateile.cz but has anyone actually done it in the UK? The reason why I am asking is that I am thinking of changing my A4 quattro Avant for either a second hand petrol FL VRS or Scout. I have seen a couple of nicely specced VRSs - xenon, parking sensors, leather etc but no Maxidot - how they can spec such options and not Maxidot i dont know! I really want xenons and Maxidot and if Maxidot can be retrofitted it would make my my search a lot easier (especially as a quick glance of pics of the dash board it is hard to tell whether the face lift has it or not as the standard trip looks the same until it is switched on).

If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

Then the decision would be should I go for a VRS or Scout! Love the 4x4 ability of the Scout (my quattro was great in the snow and very reassuring in heavy rain) but love idea of the get and go (and look) of the VRS. But I have only briefly driven an 06 VRS which was very noisy - thanks to its badly setup rear wheels and worn rubber and I have yet to try a Scout. Hopefully they are both fairly quiet on the motorway once setup properly.

Maxidot can be retrofitted to FL octavia, but (there is always a but) the problem is that dealers don't like to do it because there is the possibility of "unintended consequences". In other words it's too risky for the dealer; it could come back to haunt his P&L account. What's more whilst the vehicle is under warranty I bet Skoda do not encourage this sort of retrofit. I can only suggest that when your pride and joy falls out of warranty you could try a techno-friendly dealer who is keen to give it a go, at your risk of course. This is my planned course of action.

Guilty as charged, but I'd have specced it if there had been something in the brochure to tell me what it did over and above standard trip computer, or salesperson had bothered to explain (or if I'd known about Briskoda at the time!)

Ben@Shark retrofitted a Maxidot sourced from Skodateile to my pre-FL vRS. He's sure to know if can be done on FL.

I am always surprised by the lack of product knowledge that a number of "sales" people have when coming to selling cars. Surely they should be there to advise you, answer questions rather than look at you blankly when you ask whether the engine has a timing chain or belt or even the highly technical question of do the rear seats actually fold flat. So helpfully suggesting that if you have specced xenons that you might want Maxidot to adjust the beam when driving on the continent - plus it will help with resale (I am a case in point!) - should not be asking too much. Especially as you have made the effort to go to the show room, already having made the decision that that particular marque is on the shopping list and all you really need is someone to help with persuading you that your emotional purchase is in fact a practical and objective one!

As said above it can be difficult getting the dealer to retro-fit the item for you.

When I first got my Mk2 I wanted Maxidot and ordered a unit in.

2 dealers refused point blank to fit it.

Autohaus in Northampton managed to almost totally break my car - but they disclaimed telling me before hand the retro-fit "could" cause other issues.

In the end Vindis (Cambridge) managed to fix what Autohaus had done and get Maxidot fully working.

However if I could do it all again I'd use somebody like Ben

Before buying make sure Ben confirms that he is able to do retrofit on FL model. A year ago I asked him about my FL and he said sorry not possible. Maybe he can now do FL models in which case you'll be OK.

Octimark my A4 is a 2.5V6 diesel 180bhp, 6 speed manual quattro sport avant with cloth, cruise, interior light pack and rear sensors. I am looking for something with a bigger boot as we have a 13 month old baby and the boot gets filled very quickly and baby stuff seems to fill the rest of the car. The Octavia seems to be the front runner at the moment with its massive boot - without getting a physically bigger car and the impracticalities of then trying to park it.

Stoofa, the mk2 in your above posting is it an FL or pre FL?

I have had a reply from Ben at Shark Performance, and unfortunately at the moment he can't retrofit a FL Octavia with Maxidot. So it looks like I will have to continue my search for the perfectly specced VRS (or possibly a Scout).

depends where you get the cluster from  and who you get to fit it

 

I can do Pre-fl and facelift clusters and I normally charge £60

Was the maxidot only available on the vRS if you went for DSG? It was when I ordered my old one in Nov 2010.

Some dealers might do it but they are far and few between.

Also looking to get this done. Can't seem to find any clusters on the net though. Shark is 15 mins down the road but if they don't do it anymore that's a bummer. But I work in Kings Lynn so wouldn't be too far to Yarmouth
