Stream mp3 head unit V stream head unit

Featured Replies

I want the ability to be able to add an mp3 auxiliary point in my 2006 Octy 2. My car has the non mp3 stream head unit fitted at present. I know there is a way to add an auxiliary point to the non mp3 stream but I really want to keep my 6 disc multi changer.

To get around this I am thinking of swapping the stream head unit for a stream mp3 head unit and fitting a 3.5mm socket in one of the blank buttons under the climate controls. Does anyone know if swapping the head units are a simple 1 for 1 swap? I am OK with a soldering iron so I guess adding the auxiliary point should be fairly easy.

Alternatively I could fit a non-standard head unit such as a Sony MEX-BT2900 which would give me the added benefit of a Bluetooth car kit. Does anyone know whether non-standard head units can control the standard Skoda 6 disc multi changer?

I would appreciate any advice.

I have been thinking about this for a long time, am I going to be spending a lot of money and time in order to keep a 6 disc multi changer for what exactly? The discs I want to play can be added to my MP3 player and can be played through the original stream head unit using the Connects2 adapter?

Has anyone got a Connects2 adapter that they are playing through the non MP3 stream and what is the quality like? Is it worth the £30 outlay and was it easy to fit? Also, where did you place the Connects2 box? Can it be hidden behind the centre console with the wire fed up through the top box or would the Connects2 box need to be in the top box too? Or is the glove box a better option, again can the Connects2 box be hidden or does it need to be in the glove box?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

The quality is fine, I fitted a connect2 to my neighbours Audi the other day. The only problem you will have it that as its a 3.5mm jack, it won't transmit any track info at all and all the controls have to be done though the unit that is plugged into it. I have a stream mp3 I took out when I added an RNS510. So for the right price you could have that as an option.

Rgs.

P.S. The connects is only the size of a matchbox+ so will fit in above or below the HU.

Sorry, was you offering to sell me your Stream MP3? If so, how much, I will PM you!

Fitted a Connects2 to my Stream and SQ is great, have to turn my mp3 player volme up quite high, but that's to be expected.

LOADS of space behind the top centre vent/storage box area, loads of pics on my Flickr here:

Drilled a small hole in bottom of the storage area and fed cable up through there, once it's fed through a pin-***** hole in the rubber insert you can't see anything.

Edit: Well worth it for the £30 outlay, have not missed my CD changer AT ALL since installing it. 6 CDs vs 40GB mp3 player is no competition, and if I do have a CD I want to listen to it goes in the main headunit slot.

Finally fitted the connects2 yesterday and am very happy with the sound quality! Thanks to dor and chr1s for your advice!

However, when removing the stream hu the aerial connector broke. Does anyone know where I can go to get a new one, it doesn't look like any other aerial connector I have ever seen before? I would imagine it would be an easy swap but want to make sure I get the right connector at the right price!
