Knocking Noise

Featured Replies

Has anyone experienced a knocking noise that sounds like it is coming from the driver's side, rear door area.

I have taken it to the dealer who has checked around and has said the suspension is fine. They have also lubricated the suspension and the rear door hinges.

The knocking is still there but more muffled, presumably due to the lubrication.

Car is a FL vRS Hatch.

Cheers ...

hows the exhaust? poss slipped a rubber just a guess..but would check to eliminate it..good luck-skodaman3.

I guess that they would have checked the exhaust when it was on the ramps, and the noise had less of a 'crack' to it after they had lubricated around.

However, I will have a swing on the tailpipes to discount the exhaust.

I generally only hear the noise at lower speeds, and strangely it doesn't seem to coincide with speed bumps and the like.

Cheers.

Hi had a similar issue with mine, dealership couldn,t find fault but did replace a few interior panels to try and solve problem, found out through various forums and posts door seals can sometimes be the culprits lubed mine with autoglym rubber and vinyl cleaner and noise disappeared hope this helps

regards Mark

It is very likely to be the rear anti roll bar drop links, remove the lower nut and free them from the ARB then push them back and forth to see if there is any play, the slightest bit and it sounds like there is something loose in the back, if the dealer has not undone them and checked in this way the its unlikely you will find the fault, probably only one has gone but without being free the good one prevents you moving them enough to check for play....will literally take you 5 minutes a side to check

Well it wasn't the exhaust.

The noise seems to be less muffled than it was when I got it back from the dealer (probably the lubrication wearing off).

Will have to look at the ARB (or probably ask the dealer to look at the ARB!).

Cheers.

Realised that I never closed this post down.

Since lubricating the rear door hinges, and waiting a period of time for the oil to work its way around, the knocking noise has gone!

Cheers
