How long does wax last? I want to apply some AG SRP.

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I gave the new VRS a waxing (Meg's NXT Gen Wax) a few months ago now, but it has a few swirl marks so I am thinking it will probably benefit from a coat of AG SRP.

Now, I am finding it hard to tell whether or not the wax has deminished, as it does still bead water in some places, and not so well in others.

How long does wax usually last?

If I apply SRP now, will it work effectively if there is any wax left on the car? (I know I will have to reapply wax regardless after using SRP).

Thanks,

Stu.

Not a massive fan of NXT wax, doesn't seem to last all that well - as you've found.

How long a wax lasts does depend on a number of variables. Generally one with a high carnuaba content will be softer and give better visual results, but will be broken down quicker. Also depends where you're parking it, how much atmospheric fallout is around to attack it (if you park near a railway line or industrial area for example), and whether the car is garaged or undercover overnight.

Something like Collinite 476 for example, I've found to provide protection and beading for upto 12 months, with the car in question being left outside.

For best effectiveness when using SRP, I would wash the car down with a de-greaser to remove any remaining wax protection, before setting to work with the SRP stage.

Cheers mate.

Could you recommend a good and safe degreaser please?

Virosol for me. Megs do one as well.

I use BH Surfex HD as a degreaser, works very well on all i've tried it on :)

If you want a totally unbiased, and true test of waxes, have a read of this thread on SCN.

SCN - Biggest Wax Test Ever

He tests a whole range of waxes from £15 to £7,250 (approx).

That NXT stuff is not that great, a lot of residue for little coverage.

Collinite is much much better and lasts a very long time.

Good to see 2 of the waxes I use did realy well, Collinite 915 and AG High Def

bit of a flawed test as the waxes will bleed into the other waxes/sealants

I'm still sticking by Zaino its really amazing stuff.

True, no such thing as a comprehensive wax test really. Too many variables, plus different user expectations into the mix....

Not as bad as that classic Auto Express test the other year though, where the Wax test had polishing products in it! emoticon-0112-wondering.gifemoticon-0120-doh.gif

Hi I have left a post here but here goes ive noticed on the black fabia that if i use auto glym resin and then the nxt gen 2 wax on top its seems greasy and matted is it because auto glym and megs are'nt compatible?,never see this on the silver superb nor the cappuchinno fabia as they are light in colour?,what would be a good wax for autoglym resin polish?

Colly 845IW is much easier to work with, anything Vics and esp their Concours. You could even splash out for some Swissvax Oynx.
