need a trolley jack

Featured Replies

I'm after a low a trolley jack for occasional use, don't really want to spend more than £50, any recommendations?

Cheers

Mike

how low? you will struggle to find a decent low profile jack for less than £100 tbh

Mike, best place for one around £80 is costco, their heavy duty jack is awesome.

Dont like the second link as the ones with a single roller on the front are not as well balanced as having four wheels.

My original arcan alloy jack bent too, so now i have the steel one, it weighs a ton though!

Don't you need a trade card for costco?

Yep, Tradecard required.

The £80 @ Costco seems to equate to about £125+ ebay (£150+ retail ?)

sounds like a plan Clive, if you can get me one I could paypal you the money? Are they around £80?

will have alook going there on thursday

i've got 2 of those, got them both from machine mart and they are absolutely suberb.. the best thing is that all the spare parts can be obtained from the manufacturer if necessary unlike some of the other cheaper brands, but i guess most people would chuck it out if it broke anyway

I have one of the costco jacks, fecking heavy but really sturdy.

SERIOUSLY consider an aluminium one, I bought my high lift (2 1/2 tonne IIRC) Kamasa jack about 23 years ago when aluminium jacks had never been thought about, it is still going strong now and the only reason I would think about changing it is for a lightweight version, mine takes most of your effort to lift it :o which is fine when you are 20 ... not so funny when you get to 40+

that would be class Clive, call me if you go.

Sorry to raise a thread from the dead.

But I've got to get my winters on soon and I need a new trolley jack for reasons along the lines of Gizmo's above, i.e. age and partly knackered shoulder.

Has anyone heard of / used SGS Engineering kit?  They've got what looks like decent kit at pretty good prices.  Am considering this as it is fairly light, has a long handle, 100mm min saddle height, 'rocket lift' and a 2 year warranty:

Any thoughts?

I bought this one, it is in the words of Devinutopia an awesome jack lol

It is low, has really good lift height, rubber pad and is aluminium which makes it ideal for taking to the track. a little more than your budget but you get what you pay for IMO.

Yeah, thanks for that - from what I've seen quite a few folks do rate the Arcans, and I saw that one in Costco this afternoon.  It was £118 (IIRC), which makes it a bit cheaper than the SGS one at £122 (their site prices are ex VAT).  I had a look round it and it looked well put together and finished for a Chinese job, it went up pretty quick without load (I was going to put the shopping trolley and Mrs Goat on it but she wouldn't play :| ), which makes things a bit quicker.

The question is do I need the extra 0.7 tons?  I don't really think I do just for my Superb - but advice varies from needing a jack with half the vehicle's kerb weight to one rated for the gross weight.

As the SGS is a similar price, I guess why not?  My bro-in law might bring his MPV round someday and who knows what I'll end up driving in a few years.

Maybe I should just grow a pair, go for it and see what it's like.  I can always post back a review.

What you need to remember with Costco is that is anything happens to said Jack as long as you own it and are a member at Costco you can return it for a full refund.

As for the extra 0.7 tons, better to have too much lift capacity than be too close to your limits.

It's a difficult choice, always good to be able to return something like that fairly easily.
