Remapped ?

Featured Replies

Sure most of you know my story ,,, had a fab vrs few years ago, got rid, now got another :D

Only thing is,, this one feels a lot quicker, and i mean a lot.

Is there an easy way to tell if its been remapped ??

Ask the previous owner?

A Skoda garage should be able to tell you, or a tuner. That might cost £££ though. Or compare to another one, although that's not the best way to tell really.

Ask the previous owner?

Hahaha ,, thought of that , not got the logbook back yet

Touché! I'd guess either wait or see if you can get a dealer or speacilist or someone to have a look.

If any members local to you have VCDS/Vagcom they could log the boost pressure, that would let you know if it has been mapped.

Or throw it on a set of rollers

quick and rough test, you could try and time the 0-60...

If you're local we'll read the map out free of charge and show you if it's mapped or not.

Nice offer Kev , think im about 400 miles too north to take it up though !

Or throw it on a set of rollers

I suspected mine was mapped when I bought it.

It seemed generally stronger performance wise than others I test drove while looking

for one to buy, impessed by the oomph I bought it. Honestly at the timeI thought I'd

simply found a "good" one. As I began driving the car and getting used to it

coupled with lots of reading about them on here I soon started to suspect it

was mapped. It happily revved round to 4500 pulling all the way and it was alarmingly

easy to wheelspin ( compared to my prevoius car anyway... 2.0 16v VW Bora on coilies )

Later, when I met up with foey for my first meet ever ( A 2 car Brisky meet. ;) )

Mark knew his car was definitely mapped and there was nothing in it between

his and mine. A rolling road a few months later confirmed what I suspected and

performance figures as per my sig were produced. To this day I'd still really like to

know where it was mapped and by whom. Wish I could find out.

Tried contacting the previous owner but he lied when he sold me the car saying it was

in standard tune, no response to my attempts to

contact him.

When the car was his it "lived" in the Milton Keynes area .

The guy worked at Silverstone in some capacity so theoretically

anybody could have been tinkering with my ECU. :o

Is it possible to tell from the RR graph whether or not it's a bad map?

What am I looking for on the graph? I can post it on here if somebody wanted to see it

if they think they may be able to help.

This has always bugged me .

You hear about bad maps and in the back of my mind I always worried that mine may be

a cheap generic map and not good for the car. Its already eaten a flywheel and clutch :p

Gerrr stick a thread up with some pictures, I'm sure someone will be able to give you an idea what it's like. Plenty will talk bollacks but a few will give some good input!

Funny, but also factual.

Where abouts do you live?

Fair distance to most places then! I'd go and take one for a test drive at a dealership, then make a comparison.

Ive compared it (from memory) to my last vrs and it seems a lot quicker , 0-60 seems similar, but higher up is bloody rapid ,, ah well. At least I can plead ignorance to the insurance comp !!
