Scuff on plastic glovebox lid

Featured Replies

Chaps,

Managed to get a scuff on my glovebox lid, definitely not a scratch but there is an area right in the middle were it is duller than the surrounding area. This was due to me resting the entire glovebox on my passenger-side floor mat while I investigated a rattling noise around that area, and some small bits of grit on the mat have scuffed the cover.

Dealers are wanting around £50 + VAT for a new glovebox lid, and I wondered if there was any way to sort the existing one before I shell out for a new one.

Many thanks!

Can only suggest trying to disguise/hide it with dash dressing, or else off to the scrappy to look for one...

Don't look at it!

I dropped the back seats and shifted a load of boxes 150 miles a few weeks ago not realising that they were rubbing against the rear door pull handles. They now both have shiney polished patches on them :'(

Easier for me to ignore being in the back though!

Warm it up with a hair dryer or heat gun and give it a rub over

Cheers Rich, but give it a rub over with what?

I use my fingers then a piece of towelling cloth , dont get it too hot just warm it and rub the area and if it doesnt help get it a little hotter and try again you can get it quite hot to the touch , hence the finger but not much hotter or it may blister , but then nothing ventured nothing gained. It tends to be more successful with shiny plastic but its worth a try

Cheers for the advice, decided to just buy another one, £50.63 + VAT (£60.76 in total). Should pick it up from the local dealer on Saturday. Fitting it should be 'fun'.

Serves me right for being so impatient. Lesson (hopefully) learned.

But did you find where the rattle was coming from?

But did you find where the rattle was coming from?

I know WHERE it's coming from, but I can't fix it. If my wife pushes down the top of the dashboard right where it touches the A-pillar cover the rattle goes away. I removed the A-pillar cover and can't see anything obvious, and I had a good poke around under the dash with the glovebox removed and couldn't see anything obvious either.

The rattle seems to come and go though, i'll probably need to get it booked into the dealer to be looked at.
