how safe are hub adapters

Featured Replies

how safe are these to run on? is there chance they could fail and should a wheel will come off? or are they ok?

im pretty much 100% i want porsche rims but put off by adapters, anyone help me out here?

what would need declared to insurance? just alloys or what?

Dude I got 15mm spacers on the front and 20mm on the rear, I give my car death and they're fine!

I run 35mm on the front and 20mm on the rears and they are fine - feels standard.

I was worried by the fact that people don't seem to run porsche wheels for very long and thought that there may be a reason for this. I believe that as long as you buy decent adapters such as FK or H&R, you'll be fine.

If you weren't at the other end of the country, you'd be welcome to go for a spin in mine...

What wheels you thinking of going for???

are spacers and adapters pretty much the same, just altering the pcd?

PCD adapters means that the 'spacer' bolts to the hub, and then the wheel bolts to the spacer (creating a different PCD) where as a spacer can be the same (but with the same PCD on the spacer) or longer bolts that go all the way through the wheel, through the spacer and into the hub.

dare I say it, but i'd say that adapters are safer :o

They bolt directly to the hubs and then you use the exiting wheel bolts to secure the wheels.

With spacers, you use longer bolts to hold the spacer & wheel to the hub, which imo puts more stress on the wheel bolts....

Not really, spacers you`d use one bolt to hold the wheel on sandwiching the spacer between. Adapters get bolted to you hub, then you bolt the wheel to the adapter. People have reported that when using adapters they dont feel right, like the wheels arnt on properly. might be ****ty adapters or might be the way its done.

This was exactly my concern when buying the twists. But I swear it runs perfectly on FK adapters

I ran fk adaptors also at 35 and 20mm

And the ride was perfect!! Just dont overtighten the wheel to the spacer as you can knacker the thread as the adapter is aluminium

Ive got a set of adapters for sale I don't know what pcd you need though? Pm me for more details.

Both, but I think it's gone on record as 'non oem aftermarket alloys' and the guy didn't seem that interested. He was more concerned with trying to sell additional insurance to cover the declared mods...

ahh i see. i head H&R adapter are best to go for? what width of adapters did you go for? did you get different widths between front and rear gareth?

35mm front 20mm rear

35mm front 20mm rear

does it matter is there like a minimum or maximum?

I wouldn't use less than 20mm as the won't be much thread for the bolts to use.

35mm / 20mm are a standard combo for fabias to get a reasonable amount of poke at the back ;)

However, if I was buying again I'd consider a 25mm or 30mm at the front to allow the car to sit lower. Not sure how much front end tuck I can achieve with the 35mm ones. Gonna drop the front a tad more at the w/e, so I'll find out them

i needed 35mm to clear the brembo's

Just seen what wheels you've obtained - had i known, I don't think that i'd have been so honest with my advice :p

Standard bolts only go about 15mm into the hubs anyway. Provided the bolts are correctly torqued and it would be advisable to pop in a little low strength thread lock/seal, you should have no bother at all.

how much should i be talking about for 2x 35mm ones and 2x 25mm ones? they about £100 each for a pair?

any best makes i should be going for i.e. FK or H&R or something else?

Check out the venom motorsport website Scott.

I think they sell FK and H&R.

I think the FK ones are about £70 odd per pair

is there a difference in quality between the 2?

The 'Scene' tells us that H&R are the best that you can buy.

I have no experience of them. I intended to buy H&R when I decided last year to go down the Twists route. However, the wheels that I bought came with FK adapters which are £50 per pair cheaper.

I thought that I would try them out and if I wasn't happy, then I'd go and buy some H&Rs. However, credit to FK where it is due - they have been faultless thus far B)
