brake caliper piston rewind tool

Featured Replies

Been trawling through eBay to buy a piston rewind tool but there are so many and none are saying what car they're for!!!

Any body got any links etc where I can get one for my fabia vrs.

Halfords £20 does the job

That's the ones.

Thanks. :)

Does a screw driver or long nose pliers work?

Some French cars that I've worked could be done that way.

I suppose, but I got 2 cars to do and at least I know i'll always have one for family cars.

Not really. I tried using a "Y"-shaped power-tool maintenance tool (not sure what it was), which had 2 studs on the top "tips" of the Y (thus locating on the machining of the cylinder), compressed against the cyclinder using a g-cramp ... it worked, but it was a right pain as you had to apply an amount of pressure whilst turning (3 hands needed, kind of thing). Tried pliers, but you need to apply more force (thus increasing the chances of slipping an damaging the rubber surround).

The Halfords/Machine Mart ones are £20 or less, and save hassle. :)

Flat piece of metal, a hacksaw and file, thats all you need to make your own, for pennies!

I just love the fact that Halfords charge double the price for exactly the same item as VWS. Most decent Motor Factors sell the Laser ones for less than £20.

I bought a "Laser" make one years ago from halfords when i was doing brakes on my wifes first mk1 superb since then ive used it on octavias and more recently on my fabia vrs.

Although as previously stated halfords are sometimes a little dearer pays to shop about .

The tool needs to apply an axial force on the piston at the same time as turning the piston . Don't think a flat piece of metal is going to do the job.

As mentioned in previous post it's quite easy to damage the piston boot cover if using pliers.

If you buy the Laser tool it will last a lifetime and is useful on front brakes as well as being essential for rear brakes.

Believe it or not, none of the pin patterns fit the Fabia rear piston slots. It will work if two of the pins are reshaped with a bench grinder, but it does not apply pressure as you rotate it, so considerable force is required to push on the socket wrench as you turn the tool. Poor for the money, better with the proper Laser tool.

I've heard that the square ones are rubbish. Think I'm gonna purchase the laser ones.

basically go to halfords, buy the laser one, peel the staples off the packet, use it, wipe clean, put it back in packet. return to shop.

lol. Done that once with wrong oil filter. Got the wrong one, tried it any way, got it full of oil and took it back to halfords for the right one.

They're fault for not opening box and checking.

correct so save yourself 32 quid on the tool and do it again! :)

Same tool is under 20 quid delivered on ebay.
