C36 AMG or E36 M3

Featured Replies

always loved the M3 in all guises and the nearest i had was an E36 320i (M3 wannabe lol) which was a corking replica, somebody had spent a small fortune making it look the part with genuine parts even had M3 interior,it was a good car but the 320 is guttless  but a mate had to get one up on me by buying a lovely estoril blue M3 evo :finger: and on the occasions i drove it i found it to be a fantastic car,the only thing i would say is that off the mark performance didnt impress me as much as i thought it would but then they are a pretty heavy car but once there going they pull very well and midrange-top end power delivery was great, speedo seems to climb as fast as the rev counter :D very nice car

To a BMW E30 owner, the E36 range was pure sin. The E30 was very good for it's time and is still enjoyable today. When sports cars were sports cars before electroncis came and spoilt the fun.

To justify my points about being gutless, i am comparing it to a car with less power and more torque - i.e my Volvo. It has over 300 of both and E36 Evo's are quite east to irritate, and the M-Roadster is slightly more difficult but still achievable. 2 of my friends have had one of each, and although they are blistering in a straight line - the sort of rewarding 50-100 mph county road it feels slightly lacking in the torque region, but having owned petrol turbo's you kinda get used to having it.

I mean i once had a scenario in my M3 where i was at a set of lights, a 04 Audi A3 2.0 TDI rolled up next to me. I looked ahead and saw the 200 yards of my lane disapear into one. So i set the biteing point and waited. Suddenly the lights went to amber and i was off, waiting for that magic moment at 5000 rpm, to find by the time i had covered the 1st 100 yards the audi had pulled in front. For me it was all over :(. I am sure it it was a much longer bit of road i could have wiped the grin of his face, but where it counted i didn't have the torque -

There are ways to get e36 evos off the line... but it tends to cause damage to the clutch.....
