Fabia vRS standard equipment question

Featured Replies

Hiya, I'm thinking of losing my Leon Cupra TDI and buying a Fabia vRS (newer car, lower milage, etc). Just struggling to work out what they came with as standard, two features I'd like to keep from my Leon are the climate control and cruise control. I believe climate control in a Fabia isn't an option, it's all manual AC? The cruise control I can't work out though, I didn't think it was a standard feature but could be retrofitted, however I also read an online magazine review (AutoCar I think, I've closed the browser tab now but will try to find the exact link) which suggested that cruise control was standard fitment on the vRS, is that true?

I've found a link to the online PDF of the Fabia manual, but as usual this documents every single option which could conceivably be on the car, so there's sections for cruise control, dashboard driver information system, etc, most of which I'm guessing wouldn't be on a standard vRS so it's not much help...

Cheers!

edit - I've also tried a search of this forum for "standard spec" and "standard equipment", but couldn't find the answer I was after...

im no expert but i believe you cant have climate control and cruise control was an option that some people took the same as xenon's

hope that helps slightly

im sure 1 of the more intelligent guys will be through soon :)

Cruise control i believe was an option on standard vrs but is standard on the special edition.

Option on normal vrs, standard on SE's.

The aircon isn't manual it's climatic or something. Basicly climate control but not digital

Ah, I wonder if I was reading a review of the SE then. It was definitely a race blue car in the article pictures and I know you could only buy the SE in this colour. If it was an option on earlier cars then it can obviously be retrofitted though, so something I could look into.

Thanks!

Not a massive amount to retrofit tbh < £200

Yeah, it's something I'd look into, although buying the car would leave me wiped out for a little while (as I may end up running both cars for a while, this would be the first private purchase/sale I've ever done as I usually go for a convenient part-ex). I may even find I don't miss it that much, but it's handy for motorway commuting.

Just to add my two cents worth,

I think the options available on the standard fabia were:

  • Cruise Control - can be retrofitted as mentioned for approximately £200
  • Middle Headrest
  • Xenons - look for headlight washers as they would have come with xenons specced from the factory
  • Leather seats - I think these were about £1100 they are black with red piping on the back - although there are alot of cars which have had non oem leather fitted, search "seat surgeons" on this forums and you can see some examples
  • Heated seats - now I'm not sure about this one but I think some cars with standard leather came with this, there are a couple of blanks on the dash for it and I think some of the higher specced non vrs models came with it.
  • Six CD changer - fitted under the passenger seat.
  • ESP - the standard car comes with ASR which controls traction on a single axle - if my understanding is correct ESP does individual wheel breaking, I'm sure someone with better knowledge than me can explain it better, also I am not sure I have got the acronym correct.
  • Side airbags
  • I have also seen that some came with sat nav, but they are very rare, (I think it was the touch screen unit from the octavia) - I'm sure someone can correct me on this.
  • Sunroof

The SE came with Race Blue paint, six cd changer, cruise control and leather seats, and of course you could get the options above.

Now I may have missed something but I am sure that others on here can point you in the right direction / add to my list.

Good luck finding the right one, it can take a while but is ultimately worth it.

A few comments on the above answers:

Cruise is not retrofitable on ALL cars - a friend's September 2004 one couldn't be electronically set to accept it and he had to have the old lever reinstated.

"Heated seats - now I'm not sure about this one but I think some cars with standard leather came with this, there are a couple of blanks on the dash for it and I think some of the higher specced non vrs models came with it." - certainly in terms of the vRS (and I think all other trim variants too) leather was only standard on the SE and heated seats weren't an option on that car. The Elegence had heated seats as standard - but not leather seats.

The SE also had "sunset glass" and red calipers - and you COULDN'T get any other options at all...

The 6 CD changer still allows you to put a CD in the radio itself - so it becomes a seven-CD system!

The part that stops it working can be swapped for the other type that works with the CC so it can be done, just a bit more expense/ballache

Mines had

Xenons

3rd headrest

Heated seats

The options are nice!

Best options would be ESP (awesome)

And xenons!

Cheers guys, I think the best course is for me to ring the owner and ask what's in there, he hasn't mentioned anything but I seem to recall seeing bumper cutouts for headlight washers so may have xenons...all useful advice so far though, so thanks again!

Me again! The one I'm looking it has no cruise, and no xenons, I was mistaken about seeing the bumper cutouts. You say the cruise control is retrofittable for ~£200, what's actually involved? I'm wondering if it's DIY-able, I have a fully licensed version of VAGCOM and a cable that'll work with the Mk1 Fabia, so if the £200 rough cost is mostly labour and software tweaks, I might have a crack at it myself (I'm sure I can get the steering wheel and stalk off, they pretty much just click into place I believe?). I've agreed to buy the one I've been looking at and just waiting for the loan to arrive in my bank to go and collect it, so if the cruise control is a possible DIY job then I'll look into trying to get the stalk from TPS over the weekend and make it my first "mod" to make the car mine :)

Cheers!

You should find all the information you need is here B)

Awesome, thanks. Bit more involved than I thought (I don't have soldering irons etc) so I'll just wait until I've got hold of the car, do the VAGCOM bit to make sure the controllers are compatible, and assuming they are I'll find the most local place and get it booked in to be professionally done. Thanks for the link though!
