XP remote desktop/terminal services.

Another one to pick yer brains..

I now have XP at work...

ive got a vpn connection into work from home and currently use pcanywhere to connect to my work pc.. this works fine :)

however.. the vpn does not support windows networking.. ie transferring files, but it works on remote desktop..

ive set the permissions up on my work pc and can connect to the remote desktop connection.. BUT when i put my login details.. it wont let me log in, saying "the local policy of this system does not allow you to log on interactively"

ive looked on the ms knowledgebase and all that says is to put the user in the allowed user group on remote desktop settings... which they are.. but it still doesnt work.

the machine is standalone and not a domain member.. and ive tried using my local account and test accounts which all have the same restriction. does anyone know how to configure it?

thanks in advance.

Is remote desktop enabled at all on the remote PC, Colin? If not you have to go into Control Panel -> System -> Remote and enable it. That can give similar errors - can't remember the exact text.

Sounds daft, but have you a password setup on the machine your trying to RDP to? XP doesnt like you having blank passwords and it can cause unexpected errors.

Start - run - mmc

File - add/remove snap in - add - group policy - local computer - finish - close - ok

Expand the tree to get to computer configuration - windows settings - security settings - local policies - user rights assignment.

Check who is in the log on locally , deny log on locally and deny log on through terminal services settings

Zoidberg... you are a star

There was a "allow logon via terminal services" that had no usergroups in...

cheers :)
