Shark fin radio aerials

Featured Replies

Hi there,

Have an Octavia Ambiente 02 reg. hatchback, am going to fit roof bars, and probably a roof box. I suspect that this

will foul the radio aerial. Has anybody out there fitted a shark fin aerial similar to those fitted to some Mercs.

and BMWs for instance.I would welcome comments and feed back if you have. I`ve seen some pics. on the net showing

having to peel back the headlining etc. and it doesn`t look too daunting, but,for instance, is the radio reception just as good, is a particular make better than another? Or is there something staring me in the face that I haven`t even thought about?.Thanks very much.

Try www.visualgarage.com They are in Canada, I fitted their shark fins to both my 07 and now my new 60 Octys and they work just fine.

They come painted, so you will need to find your paint code. Both my Octys were/are Candy White so I had to use the V W paint code as they don't have Skoda codes on the order form.

Best to e-mail them if you have a problem with paint codes.

Full fitting guide on the web site. No need to remove the headlining.

I have a Peugeot item fitted to mine. It's a stubby that replaced the original

Has anyone got the old amplified base unit they might like to pass on to someone who has a failed one

Like the look of this, more things I have to buy.

Yay, just been the scrap yard, 2 x mk4 Golfs (one on a 51 plate, the other was a bit older). I now have 2 new aerial bases and a working radio again. Cost £2 (for 1 base, the other accidently walked out in my pocket :giggle: )

are these easy to replace? mine is damaged so I will need to replace it

Unclip the plastic trim at the top of the tailgate opening (estate), and then you can slide your hand and a spanner in to loosen off the nut, and then undo with your fingers. Disconnect the cable (there is a joint in it), and then lift off the old base from above. 30 seconds work (60 seconds tops).

Fittting is just as easy :-)

I might take a picture or two tomorrow (not put the trim back on yet).

I have a hatch, but I guess it won't be so different! cheers!

Both of my donor bases came from Golf hatches... one bit of trim and then there was enough room to get in. On the first car I just took a knife to it :D, but the second car I was a bit kinder!
