Mobile bumper/scratch repairs - anyone used them?

Featured Replies

Parked up at work yesterday and thought I'd pulled up short of the kerbstone, but obviously hadn't

Took a gouge out of the plastic front bumper right in the middle :@

Has anyone used any of the mobile repair people such as Chips Away or Revive for something similar, to be able to give a rough estimate of cost and indication of quality of finish?

Cheers

Can't you just hide it with a big orange stripe? :giggle:

Ouch :S

Sorry tohear about your little mishap Bri :'(

I used chips away after some numpty pulled off my headlamp washer cover.

Cost me £30 cash no receipt etc.

Perfect colour match.

I have heard that the quality of finish can vary, so if you can go on personal reccomendations or ask to see some of their work.

It depends on where you live and the operative who does the work. I've seen work done in the London area that is as good as any paintshop and also work in the Spalding area that is average at best.

They will not be 30 pounds for a gouge, ie have to use filler rub down heat , prime and paint, that takes 1 and a half hours, a simple paint chip yes ok for cash, mine did that for free

Unfortunatly mine wasn't just a chip, it was a brand new washer cover, they come as bare plastic.

I could have brought the correct paint and primer of fleabay for £20.

For the extra £10 I thought i'd get a proper job done (don't trust my paint spraying skills)

I also now know how good my local guy is.

Sad times Bryan.

Issue with Chips Away/Revive is that they're franchises. So what's good in one area of the country, could be rubbish elsewhere. You really need a local recommendation, in order to be sure of a decent outcome.

Got a local company out where i live after i had reversed the wifes audi tt into our security post that we had fitted, ended up cracking rear bumper. They came out and repaired it.at first the job looked good well impressed. But when i came home the following night from work my car lights shone onto back bumper as i parked onto the drive and the quality of the finish was not good.Phoned them up and all that they said was if you want a quality finish i should of went to a body shop. That was my experience with the mobile repair and it wasn't chipsaway or revive who done the job.The wifes car was hit where she worked on the rear again and she was walking to the car when it happened so we had a full respray done courtesy of the other drivers insurance at our chosen bodyshop. So i hope this helps,i did have appointments with chipsaway and revive but they could only come on certain days.I wish i had waited...

Hmmm, not good. What did you pay for that mobile repair, out of interest?

I've used Chipsaway in Hull a couple of years ago and one in York last year, both were pretty good and reasonable price too if that's any help, Hull shouldn't be too far a drive if you can't get a good one local to Lincoln.

Bang on the money Alan - quote yesterday £100 + VAT, but there's a 10% discount offer on at the moment, so £90 + VAT = £108. Coming to do it 8.30 Saturday morning - will report back what sort of job they do :S
