pipercross panel filter for vRS

Featured Replies

Seen them on ebay, are they worth getting? what gains if any should i expect?

From experience of them on previous cars no gains what so ever. maybe 1-2hp if your lucky, or the dyno is feeling generous. If you after gains you need a new intake.

I thought that would be the case, better off spending £60 on v-power then!!

yes right but the boca and the polo GTI got the batterie in the boot , so the coldair intake doesnt fit .

no they dont, you can see the battery in that picture

90802cd2.pngThis seems to be ITG maxogen intake for the 1.4TSI

This is the forge intake

the Ibiza/polo comes with the battery in the boot from the middle of 2010 . so that might be and older pic there

That doesnt matter. You said the intake fits on the BOC and Polo because the battery is in the boot. However the 3 pictures above all have the battery in the front with the intakes fitted, so evidently it will fit either way.

yes right cuz i have only seen pics with the battery in the boot and the airintake , wasnt sure if there is enough space between the engine and the battery . thanks for the picture , gonna call them tomorow

just how many of these engines make 190+bhp as standard? it feels faster than 180 bhp...

hello there i just fitted a piper yesterday took 2 mins to fit i know from other cars you do not get much in gains, even with the new intakes its all to do with ambient temperature outside and in the engine bay , but my she does sound better now :)

i guess the the furby also takes so much advantage of the intake mods due to the airintake mounted intercooler?

They dont. Its just guys who have used AMDTechniks and awesome GTI's rollers that think thwy have loads of power. Stick it on a dyno dynamics and it'll make stock figures. Mine made exactly as the manufacturer figures state.

This one is making 185hp standard, and 194hp with the forge intake

im not sure I know what you mean. The intake feeds into the turbo/supercharger setup which then feeds into the intercooler. this is the same for all turbocharged cars.

turbocharged/supercharged cars do get much more benefits from an intake than a normally aspirated engine will gain.

yeah, yours was at 600 miles, they will run in , mine is now 6000 miles and definatley faster... was talking to a techie dude at a meet recently who said the ECU's are designed to turn up the engine at 1k 2k 3k 4k until full power... don't know if this is true (electronic running in!) but mine is definatly noticably quicker than it was at 600 miles....

when i say bang on, mine was actually showing 176hp. so by the time it 'loosens up' it'll be about 180hp max

The TSI 180 PS engine doesnt have a regular intercooler , it got a front mounted water Radiator that cools down the intercooler wich is inside the airintake

So then guys which intake would be the best one for the vRS then as I'm not that clued up on mods ?

I had the ITG Maxogen on my last car and it was immense. Highly regarded as the highest performing intake on the market on the TFSI. Id imagine its just as impresive on the 1.4TSI.Its what ill be going with.

a point ot bear in mind is the ITG uses an oiled foam filter. The Forge uses a smaller cotton filter. Both require maintenance, however the foam will require cleaning and oiling more often (every 12k normally) but its easy to do, just pretty messy

Cheers for that janner. So basically it's sounds just like cleaning an air filter on a motocross bike then ( clean with petrol then airfilter oil?)

Where are you getting this information from. The 1.4TSI is intercooled just like pretty much all the other turbocharged and supercharged engines. This is from the VW 1.4TSI technical bulletin produced for mechanical technicians to learn and train themselves on the engine.

The intake feeds into the supercharger which in turn feeds into the turbo charger. That compressed and heated air charge is then sent through the ai cooled 'front mounted' intercooler, the then cooler air is sent back though to the inlet manifold. An intercooler is always after the turbo/charger, and never before within an intake.

Exactly that. Clean with petrol, allow the petrol to evaporate, Oil the filter with the supplied ITG oil, allow it to congeal (it beccomes alot more gloopy once sprayed, this then stops all your particles entering through the filter. Simple as that. I had 2 filters on my last car so i could swap them over and then clean the used filter in my own time. I sold up before this was required anyways.

Theres a new 1.4TSI tuning section been opened up on here. Only been on for a few days but it'll grow pretty quickly. theres dyno sheets, intake and remap threads ive put in there already to start it off

Cheers for that janner I think I'll have to invest in one

Morning Janner,

Thanks for the link, but I have a question as you seem pretty knowledgable.

Is the engine bay layout the same / similar across all 1.4TSI twincharge engines? The ITG intake you specified is advertised as specifically for the Ibiza Cupra / Boccy. Would something like this fit the VRS with little or no tweaking?

Is the stock car modified to fit the air intake scoop at the front?

Thanks.

It 'should' fit the same, the space between the battery and engine look to be similar. No doubt if you spoke to Andy@ITG he would give you discount so he can test fit it to yours. The filter element will all be identical. i know the forge filter is identical through the ibiza/polo and vRS.

The likes of the scirrocco, golf and octavia TSI (twincharged engines) they have more space available than we do in the fabia
