Ok, i have an immaculate condition, well cared for 1.9TDI Fabia Elegance with just a tad over 31,000 miles on the clock, it's an 06 plate and it has just been serviced (by an indy), he says it's the best condition car of it's age he has seen but did say that even though i look after it and it's done low miles i should still consider having the cambelt changed....... due to it's age not miles.

I think this makes sense but just how much would a cambelt change be ? And have any of you guys had this issue with low miles but age related changes.

If I remember rightly I paid around £200 for Ali at unit 18 to mine that was belt kit and waterpump they do generally say that you should change your cambelt every 4 years or what ever milage yours should be changed at but for the sake of a couple hundred quid I'd get it done other wise worst case scenario you end up replacing half the engine

Cambelts need changing either after 60,000 miles because of wear or after 4 years due to potential degredation of the rubber.

Bugdet between £200-£300 for a change

As everyone else says, maybe £300 for a cambelt change, or maybe £3_000 for a new engine.

i had my cambelt changed on my vrs at 45k, skoda say 60000 miles or 4years old, so had mine done when it was 4 years old

Cheers for that, right then..... change it is. It's a lovely car and looks like brand new, i don't want the engine to go POP !

Car was in it's 5 year with 44,535 miles on clock, so a balance of age and time.

Argumentative point 4/5 years 50/60,000 miles or whichever is soonest, even Skoda can't agree with themselves.

def worth changing cam belt .. Rubber deteriorates and gets more brittle over time.

Is a cambelt change really between £200-300. I rang up for VW/Audi Specialist and they quoted £400. The dealer also quoted $400 including the pump for my 1.9 SDi Fabia (2000 W reg) . If anyone knows a cheap place in North London, please let me know.

£200 can't be right cos the genuine parts alone come to £140 from TPS.

And for your £140 you get a cam belt kit, water pump, anti freeze and new engine mounting bolts.

I've only done two on PD (BLT) engines, and they both took approx 5 hours to complete, but having said that they were both family cars and I did'nt rush lol.

No it does'nt, I always change the aux belt too when I change the cam belt, its an extra £11.18 part No S038903137AA.

And the water pump for an extra £25 , whilst all the bits are off its worth doing .

I'm pretty sure I only paid £200 from Ali at unit 18 that was cambelt kit and water pump I may have paid £300 but defo no more than that but like I say im sure I paid £200
