Yeti 4x4 auto make clicking noise when turning

Featured Replies

Just before Christmas I managed to get a Yeti 4x4 Auto. I have done 6000 miles now and it has always made a clicking noise when accelerating quite hard around corners. It only seems to do this from standstill and only when the car is cold. It sounds like CV joints to me but the garage can't find any problems. Has anyone else found this problem? I am not sure if it is from the front or rear axles. It is a very regular speed related clicking/clunking.

Not noticed it on mine.

Firstly, welcome to Briskoda. :D

There is a thread somewhere here about noise from cold. Mine sometimes has a bit of driveline 'shunt' when changing gear from cold. Hasn't got any worse over time. Could this be the same as yours?

Hi, thanks for the welcome. I have noticed some noise when it changes gear but I think that is just normal DSG noise. This seems to come from the drive shafts and is a regular knocking noise when turning and accelerating from standstill. Once warm it is impossible to recreate. I wouldn't worry too much but it seems to be getting worse.

Thanks, Dominic

Possibly some transmission wind up but I'm not sure if that is possible with a Haldex system as it would split the torque more to eliminate it.

If your Yeti is due for a service soon perhaps it would be worth taking it in a bit sooner than required and have them take a look at the noise. You need to be able to replicate the problem with a technician.

My 2wd car has done this from new. I have taken to a dealer and it wouldn't do it whilst they were testing, as said above seems worse when cold.

If you apply full throttle in first and sometimes second gear, particulary with right lock it sometimes makes a loud mettalic clicking sound a little like a ratchet tightening. I initially thought a driveshaft joint was damaged with the ball bearings clicking across damage in their tracks as the car accellerated with lock on, but now I think it is something in the suspension clicking as it moves in a mounting. The clicking goes on whilst the nose of the car rises under hard accelleration, then stops, so it seems to be most likely to be the anti roll bar clicking as it rotates?

There was another thread here a few days ago about something similar cured by tightening a connection on the roll bar, could be the same issue.

I also hear a slight mettallic clunk from the rear wheels as they go over large bumps, again not heard by the tester, even though I could hear them during the test. Sounds like a small amount of play in a mounting somewhere, possibly the shock absorbers?

Interesting - not one I have had. So exasperating if dealer can't find any fault . Have you taken a tech out per Jame's reply? You might have to leave overnight at the dealer and take out next morning - perhaps they will give you a courtesy car to enable this. I think mine probably would. Hope you get it sorted.

Hi, yes that sounds like the same noise. The dealer actually said it may be a suspension noise but they couldn't really replicate the problem. I will ask them to check that next time. Thanks for the reply.

Hi, yes I think I will go with the technician for a drive next time I take it in. Thanks, Dom

Hi, I tried this last time, I gave them the car overnight. I also got them to fit a towbar so I was a bit too eager to get the Yeti back and try the towbar. I should have left it with them until they found the problem. Next time....

Yes, exactly the same symptoms. Pulling away to the right uphill from a junction near home when the vehicle is cold. Difficult to reproduce when warmed up (the car, that is!). Sounds like a CV joint to me too. Dealer has fitted new suspension mounting bolts specified in an advisory, but made no difference. We are now in monitoring, or wait and see if it develops, mode.

Just had my 170 4x4 Elegance into the dealers for a repair after having a persistent clunking since last September from the rear of the car. Thought it was the brakes but told by the clown on reception it was normal for the brakes to stick on the rear. Got so bad when setting off I had to take it back again, where the clown on service reception tried to fob me off again. Insisted that someone looked at it, and thE master tech and another tech came to look and test drive it and reproduced the clunking noise. Car onto the ramps next where they couldn't find the fault but eventually traced it to a missing steel washer missed at the factory so causing excessive travel and causing the lower bush to fail hence the clumks. The bush was temporarily repaired while new parts were ordered and fixed.

Hi,

I got my YETI 2.0 TDI 4x4 DSG just on New Year. Its a great car, but I also got this strange clicking noise in the back when I accelarate. I took it to the dealer and they could not say what was the reason. I wounder if you git your problem solved. If so please let me know what was the reason so I can explain it to the guys from skoda in my city and hopefully it can get fixed and I can stop worring about this issue.

Thanks in advance!

Not fixed, according to Skoda who have been out in it with me and done its 18K service when I againn querried it, there is no fault or noise.

I initially thought it was from the front, but it has now changed, presumably due to wear and is definately from the rear and I can get it to do it all the time now with the right amount of acceleration combined with turning to the right. (the dealer clearly took of the interior side panels to check the shock mountings as well as I also have a mettalic clunk. That reduced slightly but is still there over speed bumps)

I now think the noise, which is no longer a distinct clicking, but has changed to a creak is one of the rear roll bar bearings not rotating smoothly. I don't think it is dangerous, but is annoying. The car has now done 27K, I will probably tackle them again at its next service in about 6 months at 36K

It's quite unfortunate that you have not been able to solve this! I will continue trying to see what is the reason for the noise. The car is brand new and this is it's only problem.

I will let you know if I find anything!

Probably won't help but.

I had a similar problem in a Vectra 4 years ago. Under acceleration i'd get a clicking after i had braked. Turned out to be a brake shoe fitted backwards. Once fitted correctly, noise went.

I'd go and have a listen to mine, but I've an Octavia 1.6TDI on the drive at the moment - Elsie is in for some warranty work. (I miss having a toasty bum.)

I have had clicking noises on hard acceleration.

today I went on a test drive with mechanic and he suspected CV joint.

today after checking the car, he said it was confirmed, CV joints, but that it's nothing urgent, they are not putting me in danger, but we'll keep on eye on them.

In Chile, the Skoda parts are extortionate, I went online and found them for very little on Rockauto

Mine is a 4x2 TDi 2.0 ( vw special !)
