Did I get a good deal on my Octy?

Featured Replies

Just collected my TDI Elegance Hatch (2001 Y) from Silbury Skoda up near Newcastle. It's had one local previous owner and done 39000 miles.

Overall condition of car seemed very good indeed, untill I got home with it and noticed a few things. Just took the shine off my initial excitement a little.

Drives well (feels better than my 2000 Toledo with 34000 miles)

Alloy wheels in very good condition (better than expected for 4yr old car) and no sign of kerbing.

Nice interior (Beige), again very good condition, apart from dirty passenger side. Could try cleaning, but worried I could make it worse.

Under bonet/engine looks very clean and unblemished.

Underside/chassis sills all look in very good nick.

No obvious signs of crash damage/repainting.

Rear boot area looks like new.

Quality Fat Dunlop tyres (lots of tread on rears, less on front).

Car was sold on Skoda Approved Used Car scheme - 1yr warranty, MOT, MPI check, HPI check, etc.

Lots (and I mean lots) of stonechips on RH front wing. These have been merely dabbed with touch up paint - looks unsightly, cos they're like little craters.

Rear casing of LH wing mirror been repaired with glue.

Drivers interior door handle worn/scratched (I knew about this before and intended replacing).

Scrape on bumper plastic strip (only the black bit).

Brake discs seemed worn more than average - according to my uncle, who noticed this when collecting the car. I had a bit of moan to the salesman and negotiated to get the cruise stalk control (

Nice car, looks pretty clean inside and I guess it was a good deal. My octy vrs which is just coming upto 4 years old now has quiet a few stonechips on the bonnet/front bumper and drivers door, I also have a few on the passenger wing. The reason I think is that modern paint is very soft compared to older paint and is easily damaged.

If you are pleased with it then it is a good buy. :)

Don't know how helpful this is but..

I part-exed my W reg (2000) Octy SLX TDi estate 2.5 years ago....35k on the clock...for

Mine's going for around 4k with 80k miles on it (2000X), so the mileage makes a big difference.
