1.6 cr tdi dsg or 1.4 tsi dsg

Featured Replies

I cant decide which one to get for my wife. Petrol 1.4 dsg or diesel 1.6 dsg? I plan for her to keep it for up to 10 years and she will do roughly 10 000. Any views before I spend my cash on her. I have the Oci VRS 2.0 tdi which is just perfect for the long rides with kids and kit and has been such an eye opener for me, hence why I'm keen to get another Oci estate (is it sad to have 2 Oci estates?).

10k a year? Petrol! Very sweet engines, and much smoother!

And, no, it's not sad to have two! Lucky you!

Yup, 10 000 a yr. D'Oh!

Petrol.

Keeping it for 10 years? Go for the Diesel...60MPG vs 40MPG. All depends on the initial price and road tax as i see you have your location as Cyprus..

Based on the Parkers Calulator it would only take 5 years to break even and that is at an optimistic 44MPG in the TSI:

Skoda Octavia Estate

1.6 TDI CR Elegance 5d DSG

List price £20,540

Fuel consumption 60 mpg

Price per litre 139.8p

1.4 TSI Elegance 5d DSG

List price £18,700

Fuel consumption 44 mpg

Price per litre 133.1p

Extra cost to buy £1,840

Saving per 1000 miles £31.59

Miles to break even 58,238

Time to break even

at 12,000 miles per year 5 years

This is based on UK list prices and also doesn't take into account the Road tax which is free for the 1st year and then £95 a year vs the tsi at £130 a year so road tax over 10 years is (if tax stays the same :giggle: )

Diesel - £855

Petrol - £1300

So this in effect makes the break even point around 34k miles with the £445 saved on tax

Diesel; whatever happens in the next few months, in a decade, fuel will be much more expensive.

Does the 1.6TDI for the Cypress market have a Diesel Particulate Filter ( DPF ) ? . If it does and your wife does a lot of short runs you may get very expensive problems with the DPF choking up.

CR engines don't seem to have anywhere near as many problems as the PD's. There are people on here doing as little as 3 mile journies everyday with no adverse effects.

Erm

That will be me then...................however her does be getting a better run most weekends, plus I would occassionally be doing 20/30 mile runs on rural roads during the week.......... but there are weeks when it is only the 3 miles back & forth from home to work.

I would however agree that almost certainly the DPF installation on the 1.6 CR is better concieved, designed & installed than the retrofit installation on the PD engines.
