Delivery delays for petrol Scouts,,,

Featured Replies

Seriously thinking about cancelling my order for the 1.8TSI Scout. Ordered it week 4, was told by dealer that the order(with extras) was accepted by Skoda UK and up until yesterday, no build week was given. Now been told the earliest it will be is week 33. My dealer has been refreshingly open/honest about it and reckons it could be even longer.

The Scout is a nice car but not worth waiting over 6 months for! Fact of the matter is, my current car is still more than roadworthy, I only do around 4000 miles a year so justification for the 'new' car is now non-existent, that along with the fact I was paying cash, the wife has noticed a VERY healthy bank balance and reckons there are more important ways to spend 'our' money.

Ah well, so very close to being a Scout owner but yet so far!!

I know how you feel.

Ordered Diesel Scout mid December with an estimate of May delivery. Traded in my beloved Golf DSG 170 bhp (rubbish in the snow) at the time and borrowed a banger to keep me going. Now at the stage where I have no build week and I am almost 4 months down the line!

Delivery in May is looking VERY unlikely and the dealer has confirmed via Email that provision is in place to provide me with a courtesy car as of the 1st or 2nd week in May. I did think about cancelling the order but, as everyone knows, I did not get book price for my Golf, so would lose out in that respect. I also know, having talked to the sales person that they would not have a problem selling my ordered car if it was cancelled by me.

I also surmise that, should I cancel my order, the dealer would simply take delivery of my (ordered VAT free) car and sell it at book price, taking the portion of the VAT discount supplied by Skoda UK as profit and not losing the portion of VAT discount they have given me. (the only reason I felt I could take a hit on the Golf trade is was the fact it was offset by the VAT discount a wee bit).

Wonder if I would be in a position to cancel my order, AND retrieve my deposit AND the money I lost (difference) between my trade in value and the book value for a private sale of my Golf?

Mmm, feel very let down by the Skoda buying experience so far. NOT a HAPPY DRIVER!

My scout build week (diesel, ordered in December) has moved from March, to May, disappeared for a bit and as of yesterday is now wk 27 (end of June). Apparently if you ordered any flavour of 4x4 Octavia today it would be at least a 35 week wait.

I just wish Skoda were more honest about it when I ordered.

Some sorry tales guys I sympathise...

I do not believe any Skoda is worth waiting 6 months for, and will certainly be taking this into account when the time comes for a change.

I think you are right - anyone who ordered a Scout or 4x4 in the UK in the last 6 months should not expect to wait less than 8 months. We have ordered a Scout TDI end of Sept and only two weeks ago we got a Build Week confirmed. Yesterday I took another call from the dealer that week 17 is still on. Add another 4 or 5 weeks for delivery and 8 months would have passed. I am new to Skoda and this is the very first car I ordered new - not the best experience so far.

Having said this, we are sticking with it as it is still a good deal and great car (apparantly). I guess everyone buys cars for different reasons but if money is the issue, I don't think there is a better proposition out there given scarcity and second-hand values.

What baffles me as well is that for a while the going excuse was problems with the diesel engine supply chain but TSI powered Scouts are now just as slow to come through?

According to here and there, this is due to the diesel unit shortage, folk jumping off derv and onto petrol as the zero vat and cost of the fuel can equalise each other out. That, and the fact that the 1.8 unit is also used in the Superb, apparently Superbs are selling, well, superbly!

All I can add is its def worth the wait, absolutely cracking car :thumbup:

You're not alone.

I ordered my diesel Scout on 22nd Nov - that's Nov 2010 just in case anyone was wondering, the lead times aren't measured in years, at least not yet  - and despite having provisional build week 17 listed on the system for a couple of weeks in early February I now don't have one.

When I ordered I was told to expect a 26 week wait, so BW 17 was pretty much spot on if you factor in 2-3 weeks to get to the UK, but I expect this will be longer, especially after hearing everyone else's tales of woe.

Hi Speedy

Ordered my Scout CR May 2010 took delivery on the 12 March 2011. For whats its worth I had my last Scout for 4 years, relatively trouble free.

The new CR is much more refined and better finished. I have added a few extras as well as some mods. A long wait yes. However I am really pleased with the car.

Maybe worth re- thinking?

It's not who you know, but who you blow for one of these... :p

I ordered mine a the end of Jan 11 and I pic it up on Wednesday and it has been sat there for two weeks due to work commitments.

Yeah, the VRS's are coming in a lot quicker than the 1.8 petrol Scouts. I'm sure Skoda know what they are doing but the thought of waiting a minimum of 6 months from order to delivery is a bit too much for me!

N'ah, I was quite keen and excited to get the petrol Scout, but not that keen to wait 6+ months. As I've said before, I don't NEED a new car, it's just a 'nice to have', I really can't sensibly justify the cost or the wait so think I'll stick with my french tank and let my wife spend the money on shoes or something equally frivolous :giggle:

The really strange thing is the reaction from the dealer, he was totally cool with cancelling, no pressure, no false promises of earlier delivery dates. Never experienced that from a 'salesman' before!

£13,395.00 delivered and registered plus full tank of fuel.

really not pleased to hear you had a 10 month wait, but glad you are happy with the car, did you spec many extras. Ordered my Scout 140 TDI CR DSG fully loaded 27th November 2010. Spoke to Skoda UK customer services who told me they don't know when cars will be delivered as they have no access to the factory production line planners ( Not sure I believe that). I also asked if UK buyers were being put to the back of the queue behind Russian and Chinese markets as rumoured on Briskoda. UK sales Manager told me that was wrong, it was just down to massive demand and shortage of TDI CR engines from the suppliers. Have to admit I don't know what to believe. The only thing I know is true is that dealers don't care if you cancel as they can easily sell your cancellation for much more than you were going to pay for it. I originally ordered a manual version last June but due to the wait changed my order to a DSG version when this became an option. The manual version the dealer took as a demonstrator when it finallly arrived first week of January 2011 and sold it within a week for £25k, a full £3k more than I would have been paying. Will definitely wait for the car but must admit I am getting really p---ed off. The car, the VAT free & interest free deals are too good to lose now. Not a better deal out there right now on any other similar cars, it is just the wait that is the problem!! Skoda Uk have told me that I should get it by the 6 month point - not going to hold my breath lol. NOT the customer service Skoda UK seem to keen to brag about in their brochures and advertisements. Can't fault the dealers Thompson & Potter at Burrelton in Perthshire they are just as frustrated as I am and were up front that it could take 6 months for the car to arrive but they don't know if this is accurate or if it could take longer. They are being up front with people and losing loads of orders from people unwilling to wait!!

**UPDATE**

Spoke to dealer last week, explained I wasn't prepared to wait until week 33 for the Scout, he (suprisingly) sympathised with me and has no problem in returning the deposit. I haven't cancelled yet as I'm hedging my bets something might change as I surf the net looking at other options.

Anyway, fast forward to this week and I got a short email from dealer saying the build week had changed, "here we go" I thought, but imagine my suprise when it has been brought forward to week 28. Still a bit later than the provisional(at point of negotiation) week 20 but wonder if this date is any more accurate than the last or whether it's a salesmans technique in trying to land the sale?

Anyone else waiting on a petrol Scout or have an idea of lead times?

Yes it was along wait and I did consider changing my order when the DSG option became available. However. I was advised that this would probably extend the wait even further.

I opted for the Alcantara, xennon AFS, silver roof rails, GSM 111 and the painted proteus wheels which on delivery I did not entirely like, so took them off and replaced them with a set of Spitzbergs which are used on the Yeti, these have a different offset "45" and suit the car better IMHO. Did receive 300 pounds M&S vouchers as compensation.

I have also color coded the chrome grill and added the honeycombe insert to match the bottom grill. The wing mirrors have been capped with RS covers to match the rails. On the rear bumper I have added the thresh hold plate again matching the rails.

I am waiting on the OEM tail pipe extention and 10mm spacers for the rear wheels.

The car so far has been great, really enjoying ownership.

Regards

I have now been waiting for 26 weeks for a Diesel Scout and it is suppose to be built next week. I think there will be 31 weeks gone before I have the keys. Petrol Scouts are supposed to be produced quicker than that - or atleast that is what I hope for your sake.

If its of any help we found with the Diesel Scout once it had an actual build week from Skoda that improved a couple of times & I have not heard of many that have become worse after a definate date from Skoda.

The Scouts a cracking car & really worth the wait, the long wait is also keeping s/hand prices high & once it snows again they will probably go up.

This is an interesting topic , not least because we may be missing the point here . Up until now Skoda , and other premium european brands have had to sell popular cars at a huge discount in the UK because of market conditions .

However , it is now all change , for the far East has had a taste of these cars and wants more , more . The UK market is now far less important , coupled with the fact that that high raw materials costs and the Japanese industrial energy crisis are slowing down production and sending costs through the roof , making UK cars even more uneconomic to sell . Also remember that the pound has fallen 25% against many currencies over the last 2 years , whilst car costs have not increased by the equivalent amount .

All the major players accept that we can only pay out the same as last year for a new car , as our pay freezes kick in , so will welcome any oil crisis , created either by governments wanting to cash in on the " green " ticket or by political events forcing up the price of oil . This will encourage us to downsize whereupon we will suddenly find that the 2012 onwards car is the price of the 2010 car in the segment above .

We will also see cheaper parts from the far East being used more and more on our new cars and we may see the nightmare that some owners of Japanese cars suffer in the delays that occur when sourcing from the Far East .

These are some of the reasons that these delays are on the increase , industry wide .
