Summer washer fluid

Featured Replies

Hi,

As spring came up quite suddenly here, I ended up with an (almost) full tank of winter washer fluid). The genuine Skoda one. I was intending to keep it and use it in spring/summer, but it has a quite strong odor, also the summer fluids are better for removing insects from the windscreen. So my question for you is: Is there a way to drain the washer fluid tank? And finally, what type of summer washer fluid do you use?

The Skoda Washer fluid is an 'all year' one and just gets used at a greater strength in winter to give it 'anti-freeze' properties.

It is excellent at clearing bugs etc. plus it is the recommended washer fluid to use for the 'fan' washer jets and woe betide you using another fluid and getting blocked jets; the Warranty Police will be down on you like a ton of bricks.:giggle:

My tip to you now it to use about a third of the tank and then top it up with water only; then next time refill with 'standard' strength 1:4 fluid (1 litre fluid with 4 litres water); I pre-mix mine in a 5L container and then top up the car as required.

Never had any issues when using the Lidl screen wash on any VW based cars with the fan jets and we have had a few. Plus it is scented with lemon so doesn't smell too bad. They currently sell the premixed summer stuff, but I buy enough of their winter stuff to last all year when they have it in stock.

It even says 'suitable for VW washer jets' on the Lidl screenwash now too and it works great for me. Just keep it strong enough in winter to prevent freezing.

If the fan jets get clogged, simply get an old toothbrush and give them a gentle scrub. This clears any gunk and frees up the spray.

+1

I've been using it for 2 1/2 yrs now on both Volvos and the Skoda. Good stuff and the concentrate lasts forever.
