Had my wheels painted

Featured Replies

Just got my car back from the bodyshop tonight, so took a few quick snaps.

The car was in for 2 days in total, although this included a VERY small repair on a scuff on the front bumper (that, unfortunately, hasn't been done properly so the car needs to go back in for a day next week to be re-done).

Fortunately I live only a couple of miles from the bodyshop and I received a call last night asking me to drop down to see the wheels to see if I was happy with the shade i'd picked (a BMW shade, I can't remember the actual name/code now) before they lacquered the wheels. Good job they did, as there was definite blue tinge to the colour that I wouldn't want so they quickly mixed up another shade while I waited. They then painted one wheel and allowed me into the booth (quickly) to check I was happy with this new shade - I was so they continued to do all 4 and lacquer them.

The bodyshop had the tyres removed from the wheels before they started spraying, and then had the tyres refitted and balanced. The price they quoted me included the small bumper repair but I reckon the wheels cost around £270 to do.

Anyway, on with the pics:

Thanks guys, pretty happy with the wheels, although not too happy about having to wait until next Wednesday to have the bumper repaired when it should have been done correctly today.

Yes I do have 15mm spacers on the rear wheels.

Lovely motor and good job on the wheels. I'm just thinking though, could you're car do with being lowered slightly more at the front? I have Weitecs to. I'd say 4 turns would sort it.

They look great. Shade is spot on emoticon-0103-cool.gif

Managed about 5 miles along the motorway this morning and got a 'check tyres' warning flashing up on the maxidot.

Checked the tyres pressures when I got to work and they were all up around 37/38 - I will need to check what they should be (there isn't one tyre that is showing any less than the other three) - I suspect that the place the bodyshop used to put the tyres back on the wheels (a proper approved VW dealership) has pumped them up too high.

That looks realy nice and suits the white well.  2 thumbs fresh !

37-38 is too high, especially all round. There might be a case for that sort of pressure on the back, on occasion with a heavy load. Check the filler cap :)

I run my 18s at 2.2bar (32PSI).

Nice wheels mate.

Where did you get them done?

What colour would look good with a race blue VRS?

Cheers

Aye, nipped out to check on the inside of the fuel filler door and the recommendation is for 2.1 bar, so now I need to spend my lunch break letting air out of all my tyres then trying to get the tyre pressure system to reset.

Phoned the bodyshop and got no apology, just a "oh, thats strange". Nice! Used this bodyshop for over 20 years now, think it MAY be time to find a new one.

Yep, that's a bit of a pain emoticon-0145-shake.gif

TPS reset isn't a problem. though. Just hold in the button until you here a 'ping'. Least it's been a test that it does work and it's spotted a difference in rotation speed :)

not over by an obscene amount, probably the pressure recommended by VW for some of their larger vehicles. also, if you checked the pressure while warm, it will read higher!

car looks awesome Oobster!

Cheers Wardy & Daz. Managed to get it sorted at lunchtime, took some pressure out of the tyres and reset the warning thingumy, all fine on the drive home.

I think I will get the front of the car dropped an extra few mm next time I am in the area of the garage that fitted the coilovers. Not much more of a drop, maybe just an extra 5mm or so. Got some pretty large speed bumps on the roads approaching my house!

so whats next then eh? Ps do you still have that spare stonechipped grill?

  • Author

Next? A divorce according to my wife! :D

Get the front bumper repaired properly on Wednesday next week, get my other (freshly painted) grille wrapped with the paint protection film (properly this time I hope!) and then fitted onto the car, MAYBE get the standard speakers replaced by Hertz speakers and also MAYBE get the front lowered a few extra mm.

Then BIG MAYBE some 19" wheels, depending on the finances, in the summer.

What I am looking forward to most now is giving the car a PROPER clean inside and out, I have only owned the car since late January so I haven't had the chance to clean/polish/wax it yet. I was aiming to do it this weekend, i'd just bought some new stuff (Werkstat Acrylic Kit from Polished Bliss) but there isn't any point if the car needs to go back into the bodyshop on Wednesday.

The grill with the stonechips is still fitted to the car at the moment, I won't be removing it until I get the other one back from the bodyshop, then get it wrapped. That won't be until the end of April probably.
