Hi all, im thinking of getting a diesel octy, but not 100% sure at the mo.

all the octy's are TDi's correct? my last car was a modern focus which uses TDCi Common Rail injection, which was fantastic!

How do the older style TD's compair to newer diesels around likes the TDC?

I'm alson confused about the trims, and what engine you could get with what trim, ideally i'm after the 110version, or the 130.

the 130 is only on L&K models?? what about the 110?

Also, does anyone know if the engine is the same and its a ECU upgrad to gain 20bhp, or isit different internals of the engine?

one more thing, anyone here own either the 110 or 130 diesels, whats the drive like? i mean pull and accelaration, because im comparing it to the focus, which, at 70 in 5th gear, foot down, you'd be at top end in no time at all.

So how does the Octy compare?

The diesels tend to be TDI,s with the exception of one SDi.

The TDI,s are 90 or 110 hp, and are very good strong VW units. The later TDI,s are pd,s (pump deuse) which is VW,s resonse to common rail in that every cylinder has its own unit injector which allows greater fuel pressure at the injector.

Either way, neither of these could be considered "old diesels".

My previous Octy was the 90hp tdi, which was fine for normal use. The Superb I have now has the pd130 tdi, and its goes like stink.

The older 110hp tdi was only available in SLX trim (top level) and L&K, but I,m not sure what trim levels the pd130 are available in. (not forgetting they have changed trim names to Classic, Ambiente and Elegance).

Would recomend the 130 BHP Octy Elegance , had mine 6 months now ( pre new shape ) it has a lot more punch than the 110 and before buying this new i tried the New shape Octy with the 105 BHP engine and it just did not have enough go in it . Move from 60 mph to 100 is as easy as nothing and the revs dont move far above 3k . Not sure if you could still pick one up in the 130 , see what the dealers say . Fuel consumption is averaging 46 mpg after 6 k miles mix of short motorway 50 miles and local trips . My longest trip of 150 miles returned 54 mpg . Would also recomend getting the cruise control fitted . Have not done any mods yet but i am sure it would be easy to tune up from the 130 bhp to 150 / 170 , the techies will know more .

Modifying?

110 will go to approx 160 with a remap only

130 will go to approx 190 with a remap only

Some go higher of course :D

What are the differences in spec between the Elagance and L&K then? and could you get the 130 in the older SLX?

What sort of prices are the Elagance and L&K's then? what year did they go back too?

You won't find a 130 in an SLX, think they wre at most a 110.

Price depends on age and mileage.

L&K has every option, bar met paint and park sensors.

The 130 PDTDI came out in may 2003. They were produced in the Elegance and L&K versions. The 110 TDI is still available as an Elegance alongside the 130.

I have a 110 TDI Elegance (may 2003) with all the kit, and it goes very well.

Buy yourself a copy of diesel car magazine if you want to compare actual independent road tests. They have road tested all diesels over the last 8-10 years for 0-60, 30-50, 50-70 times, and top speeds. This will give you an idea of what the TDIs are like compared to yuor TDCI.
