Fabia vRS Standard Components

Right..

Quick question this one.. But have been thinking.

vRS PD130 ASZ/BLT.

Does it have the same clutch & DMF as a PD150 & PD160?

Does the PD130 turbo make any extra power on any other engines as standard? As far as I know the PD150 & PD160 have the same turbo as each other, but it's bigger than the PD130's?

Do the PD150 & PD160 have the same injectors? And are they the same or bigger than the PD130's?

In total, I'm trying to get an idea of what else differs in the engine bay, apart from the Intake & Software.

I'm getting towards remap time.. The cars 7 years old and done 73k. It's falling into that "It's ok to mod it now it's not perfect" category now. I don't really plan to get rid of it for a few years yet so shouldn't take to large a hit on re-sale by then.

It just seems to me that a remap is always going to be a small gamble on the mechanical side of things.. so knowing VW used the same bits and bob here and there on the higher out put cars would be a bit of piece of mind, you know?

How much is a PD150/PD160 Turbo these days? And what will that, in turn, cause higher stress on?

Same clutch & DMF as the 150/160

PD130 is the highest power with that turbo

Same injectors as the 150/160

150 hybrid will be around £1100

What would be under more stress? Everything, as Ross said in another thread, each time you mod something, it just show up the next weak link. Brakes, clutch, boost pipes, cooling, turbo list is endless. If your looking at just a map, get a nice smooth one should be fine.

I'd say the major item is the standard turbo, it xan let go on a standard car, so a remap won't help it. DMFs also go, but they go on unmapped cars as well as remapped.

A PD150 turbo with a mild map is likely to greatly improve performance without breaking things. Ultimately, you can go further with intercooler, clutch, flywheel but at some point there's a trade off between performance and the car being a nice place to be when you want peace and quiet rather than ultiamte performance.

Turbo Dynamics sell the PD150 as well as two hybrids to fit the Golf/Ibiza/Fabia range of cars. Well worth speaking to Unit18 amongst others regarding the work and a remap.

If you are looking at a standard PD150 turbo I paid £650 for a brand new one, but that was 1 1/2 years ago. Not sure what they are now.

I say get a decent remap from someone like Shark, and see how she goes. No reason why the clutch won't last if you drive it properly either.

You can use the 150 turbo on the 130 remap too, as I have done since the turbo was changed. Had absolutely no trouble, and as it proved on Saturday at Castle Combe, certainly went well for 'just a map', and I had no fear of parts being too stressed either so I could give it the full beans!

I'm *still* on the OE clutch - never been replaced in 112k miles AFAIK - with a Hybrid TD 150 but *still* mapped for the OE PD130 turbo. Heh :giggle:

I never floor it from under ~2200RPM in 4th, 5th or 6th. 3rd I often go from ~2000RPM to red line (~70MPH) then a swift change straight to 6th and cruise! (bring the flames?) Seems happy enough with that.

Cheers Guys.

This is my thinking.. If it's the same clutch/DMF on the 160 then VAG think it's safe as houses up to that power.. I know it's torque spikes that kill a clutch.. anyone ever seen the print out from a standard 160? I wonder what it looks like.

It does figure that regardless of what you do you'll always show up the next weak link.. But if you're pushing only a smidge past what the 160's doing as stock, and that's running the same injectors, then those injectors should be fine etc etc.. if ya catch my drift.

I guess Simon hits the nail on the head.. a soft'ish map (probably looks allot like a stock 160's) with a stock 150 Turbo should be a pretty reliable setup.

Hmmmm Food for thought..... Thanks :)

As you state, it's torque that'll hurt the clutch. Most remaps increase the torque lots. From 230lbft to around 270-290 (or bigger if you're after pub boast kudos). Keep the torque lower (260-270lbft and the clutch can survive. It'll still feel the strain if you suddenly boot it on the motorway in 5th/6th though.

PS: PD160 standard torque is alleged to be around 240lbft.

as pretty much mentioned, the internals all are the same bar the turbo in the 150 and 160, they have the same clutch but they only have a smidgen more torque than the 130 so i wouldnt go much over 260-270 max imho, thats what im gonna do on friday. as wel as geting a smooth map and moving peak torque to around 3000rpm to also help the clutch, altho i dont boot it under 25000rpm as standard, so by doing these things and being careful it should be ok. as for the turbo, aparently 1.6 bar boost max if you want the best combination of performance and reliability.

With regards to the clutch, it's all down to how you drive. Easy enough to muller a clutch on a standard map tbh
