Would like hands free in the mongrel, but best way?

Featured Replies

I have never ever installed / had a hands free kit in any car I've owned. I have an Xperia X10 and fancy having some way to hook it up in my car ideally through the radio (a Pioneer DEH something or other, not very modern but pretty good) and with a mic up by the sun visor?

What are my reasonable value options do you think? I'm quite a noob when it comes to this.

I use a bury cc9060, can't really recommend it enough.

Umm some head units you connect through Bluetooth and have a mic in the sun visor or the pillar, I know Sony do such kits for cheap also pretty good quality as far as I know, I had a pioneer and that was quite good.

The model is DEH-P7900UB - looks to have USB and ipod connection as well as usual preouts etc.

That looks to be the sort of thing, but at £100+ it would be easier for me to find a newer complete headunit with bluetooth already with it as standard. (I think) Hoping for a reasonable cheap option. I would consider a better head unit though.

Usually ends with bt if it has Bluetooth, the cheap headunit is a good option, some of the hands free were well over the price of the Bluetooth head units I was talking about.

Cheapest and least hassle way is to get a bluetooth in-car speaker device. Its normally the size of a phone and its clipped onto the sun visor. When its on and your phone is near enough (with bluetooth on), it will auto sync up. Voice and mic is built into the device. Only issue is that you'll need to click att on ur stereo and then answer the call. Costs £15-50.

Else, get any HU with bluetooth out really..

Or simply put speakerphone on when answering calls, I have an app on my phone which does this automatically.

(Edit: 2nd thoughts the last option maybe least hassle and cheapest haha!)

If its cheap you want then you can't get much cheaper than this :giggle: ...

Unless like me, body piercing and pain is your thing...

Joking aside, I have one of these THESEin both our Fabias.

Works perfect with the OE stereo in Mrs Grrs car and the Sony in mine.

Cheap, easy to fit (Certainly for somebody like you), and you can pair

it up with 2 phones. Ideal for us as we often drive each others cars.

Can be voice activated if you choose, and you never forget to switch it on as

it is fully automatic. Turn on ignition and your phone connects within about ten seconds.

Uses the cars own speakers and call quality is very good for the money.

It even reminds you if you have left your phone indoors by emitting a couple of bleeps

once you drive out of range as the car will pick up the phone even if you've left

it in the house. So even if your phone is in the boot or a bag it will work fine.

I appreciate that it's not the best one out there but for the dosh its a very

good quality integrated unit with handy features.

It even works with the faceplate taken off of my stereo or if its switched off

I use an Alpine head unit in mine, the hands free stuff is built in and supplied by Parrot IIRC. Sound quality is fine, came with a seperate microphone (watch out for this, not all the cheaper head units do) and syncs up contacts to my HTC, has a button on the stereo to initiate calling out. Can store up to 8 phones, although not sure if it can connect to multiple phones at the same time, need to check this.

This ^^^^^^

Either get a £20 speaker job that clips onto the sunvisor or swap the HU for one with bluetooth built in.

Third party kits that you have to wire into an existing stereo are a pain in the arse.
