Fabia vRS Clutch.

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I have been digging through the forum to find as much information on these blasted clutches.

What I would really like to know is what the average cose for an uprated clutch is. I am aware that there is a few fabia's that are going for the Helix kit with the Single flywheel. But im more intrested in the reliabillity of these and how many miles I would get from one. By having a butchers on the forum it seems to be that most peoples standard ones go at 35k mines done nearly 73k so its something am thinking about. Im not sure if most peoples are like this but mine tends to bite kinda middle to low on the pedal travel, I know this varies depending on car but what is the normal bite for these, my mk2 sport fabia used to bite on 3 quarters travel .

The worse scenario is that I end up getting rid of it, because of this. And I truhfully dont want to as I know ill miss it. So please any help would be appreciated.

Regards

Richard

Helix and smf £880 and will last the lifetime of the car! Its a fit and forget item

Absolutely awesome but pretty hardcore

35k?! Only if your granny is driving and riding the clutch. My original lasted 120,000 miles!

Prices, Standard is £150ish, Sachs is £700ish, SMF and sachs/Helix is £900ish.

Driving properly you should see getting on for 100,000 miles out of a standard one no issues.

In what way is it hardcore? does it affect driveabillity

Its a bit stiffer than oem... But i like it

And it chatters at idle as it utilises a single mass flywheel as opposed to the standard dual mass flywheel

Its ok I dont mind a stiff clutch pedal. And the chatter am not to fussed about simply pressing the pedal in gets rid of that anyway.

ive felt lukes and it was a hell of a lot lighter to put the pedal down with his single mass, then my dual mass/uprated sachs setup, obviously the clamping and bite point will be abit harsher on take up untill you get used to it, and the chatter lol, my dual mass and sachs setup up is fine to drive like oem it does however get a bit tiresome if your sitting in traffic for long period constantly on off the clutch does feel heavy

Something wrong with your sachs then!!

Sachs and dmf is exactly as standard

Helix and smf is stiffer and harsher bite

Had

1 standard clutch

1 sachs

And 3 helix's

:)

I hope thats on different cars?

Or are you some kind of traffic light GP animal?

I`m still running your old sachs jase, its deffo more heavy then standard. I do have the benefit of driving a standard one almost daily too so its easier to compare tbf

111k on standard clutch. Remapped from 80k, still no problems.

yes its a little more heavier but no where near the helix...

i would say it falls in between the oem and helix... slightly stiffer than oem but nothing drastic

1st fabia vrs blew its original at 37k with a remap so i uprated to a helix

2nd fabia hybrid had a sachs fitted but the gearbox went, so i uprated to a helix while i was replacing the box

golf tdi had a helix

:)

for a Helix depends where you get it fitted but the clutch is around £880 - £900 (or 10% off via mardi gras motorsport if you happen to be me - im a good customer? )

so fitting could be anywhere from £100 - £300 dependant on who does it... or again if your me about £50

eh? i said its the same as oem just feels heavier after a while in traffic constant on and off the clutch,

there you go you said your sachs / dmf is heavier than a helix and smf....

thats what it felt like to me, just the weight of the pedal thats felt alot lighter

10% discount and bargain fitting. Gutted

I've only ever driven with my OEM clutch/dmf on my last Fabia, and the Helix/SMF on the current Fabia.

Helix definately a little heavier, not a huge difference IMO.

Although as Jase says, it is a little more hardcore, driving in town can be a pain with it, sometimes not as slick to get out of gear at lower revs.

I initially thought it was a problem, until i posted on here and seems it's normal behaviour :)

As for the chatter, it's quite amusing really :)

so whats the disadvatage of running a sach with dmf?

My future mods will be fmic and pd150 shortly

none really, i just find it abit heavy if in traffic for a long period and constantly on and off the clutch pedal, its still not bad though

dmf's arent the best if running masses of torque expect to change it after about 25-40k

mines went at a lowly 195bhp after 20k!

taking with it the gearbox :o

I have weighed up fitting uprated clutches but decided to stick with a new OEM clutch, The previous one lasted 70K remapped for 50K and full fitted costs approx £300.

If i get another 50K for £300 then i happy,

I guess you pay your money and take your chances

Matt

Unless your doing Santa pod runs and track days then a OEM clutch is the best bet when standard or remapped. It's only when your going 200bhp+ it's worthwhile. Although it's down to the torque really lol

may look like a sachs clutch will be the best better, kinda middle in regards to price, and can handle resonable torque, I think once the car has a new turbo and a few other bits should be very comfortable at 200bhp. But the chassis I must train first as they say.

Can you get an uprated DMF? To support the sachs clutch
