Full wheel geometry in South Wales

Featured Replies

Hi everyone!

Just thought I'd say that if anyone's thinking of getting a full 4 wheel geometry done in the South Wales area then I can recommend Discount Tyres in Cwmbran. You need to speak to Lee. He was very helpful, and pretty clued up on the problems that some cars like the Octavia are having with excessive tyre noise. Cost £50 (+VAT if you pay by card etc).

After reading lots of helpful posts on here and finally wearing out my original fit Bridgestone tyres I decided to get all the angles checked abd changed. Rear camber angles are now set to the revised figures, and the difference it's made to the road noise from the rear of the car is astounding. Obviously new tyres help, but if you're suffering from lots of road noise on your vrs then for what it's worth just go and get the aligment done properly and scrap your Bridgestones. I wish I'd done it ages ago.

I went to the bracnh in Cardiff last weekend as Cwmbran isn't open on sundays. Did my fronts in 10 minutes and made a big difference to the steering wheel angle and also stopped [pulling to the left. Normally these quickie alignments are useless, but this was worth the £26 I paid for it.

Steve thanks for the recommendation, i was looking for someone in south wales to do full geometry on mine and wondered about them, i'll head over there and speak to Lee

Hi mate,

Any chance you can post your before and after figures so i can compare them to mine, had mine done and its still terribly noisy!

Cheers

Hi Dan. No adjustment to front, but I guess it's the rear you're interested in anyway.

Before

Left Camber -2º04'

Left Toe -0º04'

Right Camber -2º00'

Right Toe 0º24'

Total Toe 0º20'

Thrust Angle -0º14'

After

Left Camber -1º20'

Left Toe 0º05'

Right Camber -1º14'

Right Toe 0º06'

Total Toe 0º11'

Thrust Angle 0º00'

Did you replace your tyres, or just get the geometry done? If you're still running on the original tyres and they've sawtoothed, perhaps because of wrong set up, then it would be no surprise that it's still noisy.

Thanks for the figures!

My figures are more or less the same post adjustment, with the only difference being my camber being around 1.45 on both sides at the rear. Not sure if that would make all that much difference?

I had just replaced all 4 tyres with Vredesteins before adjustment and as i said its still noisy.

To be honest, I think they removed some sound insulation around my era of car, so perhaps thats why.

Cheers again

Hi again Dan. I can't promise it would make a big difference, but I think 1º45' is too much. That's the original setting (and probably what your wheel man had programmed in his machine) but Skoda revised the figure to 1º20' +/- 30'. Have a search here on the forum and you'll find plenty of discussion about the revised geometry settings, and see http://octavia-vrs.com/cms/content/common-problems. I had to instruct the man to do a "custom" alignment and not simply use the settings his computer was telling him.

Anyone know what the front settings should be for toe, camber and caster??

  • 1 year later...

I would also like to know what the new revised front wheel alignment is.
