3rd Year Service

Featured Replies

I have just got two quotes for a 3rd year service and MOT one at £110 + £54.85 MOT and the other at £175 + £35 MOT. When I mentioned that there was £65 difference in the price of a service they replied the other garage only uses semi synthetic and not fully synthetic like we do. Then they said they would give the car a free Emission Control Service which normally costs £20 and a free litre of top up oil.

Would this be true about the semi synthetic oil or just a sales ploy?

Seems their spinning you a tale (a great whopper) about engine oil.

Ring Skoda if your unsure what grade of oil should be used,

with an engine oil change you won't want a free top-up litre of oil supply !!

As to the 'Emissions Control' check that will be done within the MOT and cost nothing extra.,

MOT prices do vary quite a lot, it is to get your custom/ car into their garage.

At 3 years old there's not too much that could have gone wrong, so take the cheapest route (but see what service

you get for your hard-earned money.) Seems like just an engine oil change and oil filter for that price with an MOT.?

Fab...don't let anyone put semi-synthetic oil in your PD engine, even if it meets the spec (it doesn't stay in spec as long as fully synthetic oil). Your camshafts won't like it one little bit! In the trade I saw people do that and they paid a heavy price for doing it. I agree with giandougl concerning the price differences...you just need to shop around. Incidentally an emissions service involves a few things including adjustments to the engine, and sometimes includes a fuel treatment. You don't get that on the MOT which is purely a look and see if it's ok type of thing, and a printout of how the engine performed with emissions. It's either pass or fail on emssions.

Paid £150 for my third year service including MOT a few weeks ago at a Skoda main dealer. Shop around and compare prices. My Skoda dealer matched the price quoted by a local Volkswagen dealer without any argument. Also got a litre of top up oil thrown in as well. But I still thought it expensive for the work involved.

The garage that supposedly puts in the semi synthetic is a Skoda garage in Manchester not a back street garage.

The Emission Control Service is an engine flush plus other stuff. I think this is a link to the service.

Thanks for that.

Don't think you need a flush with car at 3 years old.emoticon-0148-yes.gif

The dealers are all franchises and can offer different services in addition to whats actually required. They all have different labour rates, so it pays to shop around come service time.
