Diesel engine cuts out and difficult to start again

Featured Replies

I have been having a problem with my 2009 Octavia Vrs CR Diesel 64,000 miles and was hoping that someone may be able to advise please. The problem has happened twice in the last few days. The car will start fine and run for about a quarter of a mile and will cut out. It will take several attempts to get started again, the engine turns over ok but will not fire. When it does start it runs fine. I suspect a fuel related problem , there is no sign of any leaks under the bonnet and no smell of diesel. could it be the fuel pump playing up, and would this show on a diagnostics scan ? Any advise most welcome.

Have you let it run low on fuel?, maybe dragging crap from the the bottom of the tank or maybe a bad batch of fuel?

No always keep it topped up as I am an engineer on call , do not think its bad fuel as it runs perfect when it's started.

I had a very similar problem with my old MK1 Octavia - fault was a sticky cold start relay, dealer diagnosed it in less than a minute and I was back on road in 15 mins. Not sure if MK2 CR has the same cold start systems so suggest ask your dealer as it is still under warranty. Good luck!

As it's only just out of warranty, and still a relatively new car I would speak to skoda and see if they will look at it under warranty as good will

Is is less than 2 years old? has unlimited warranty to 2 years

i thought it was 3 years warranty?

ahh dont a bit of googling

"two year Unlimited Mileage Warranty but also a third year of Warranty up to 60,000 miles" :wonder:
