Although the Superb is a great car, Skoda have managed to price this car second hand pretty well around or above a BMW 5 or a Merc C & E class with the same sort of age and miles, I know this would swing me if I was looking for a new car, how do you feel about it, is £18k right for a 58 plate car?

If they are the same price then simply buy the better car .... although most will not do that they will buy the 'better' badge :giggle:

With the demand appearing to rise you can bet that the dealers are throwing the trade book away and aiming high with their prices. I wonder if the person trading back is getting a better deal!!

The used car market prices are not "set" by SKODA. The market will set the price. If the cars are fetching more than those you describe, it's because the Skoda cars are more desirable.

Yeah i noticed that , its plain supply and demand I think , the long waiting lists will result in good residuals at least for those buying , i would expect (being cynical) if you were trading in that the dealer wouldnt agree:)

£18k- small change.

Noticed today as I drove past that the Skoda Dealer near Blairgowrie has a 59 plate estate (not sure what model, but hope it is elegance with ALL the toys) on the forecourt for £23k. :wonder: Meant to check on the SUK used car site but havent had time yet

I paid 19K for a 58plate (September 2008) PD140 DSG elegance with 13K miles in Feb 2010.

£18k- small change.

It is an elegance, Amethyst purple , looks really nice. Don't know about the toys tho.

Wrong mate, VAG operate a system of mass buy back, this is where they gobble up all used car's under three years old, you then get a scenario of if you want a VW you can only get it from a VW dealer and so on, been doing it year's now, and getting away with it.

Perhaps second hand prices are going up as the wait for new cars increases? I paid £15k (and got a very fair trade in on my Octavia) for a 58 plate 170CR SE twindoor with just under 20k miles on it back in October, when it was almost exactly 2 years old... who knows I might make a profit now ?!?!

Interesting and it rings true with what I've been told this week: the corporate sales guy near Leeds said he'd recently had several orders cancelled recently for Leased Octavias. They were for a national supermarket chain and were cancelled as the residual value of their current cars had risen due to the long lead times on new so they were then going for bigger & better specified cars (from Skoda I hope!) ... it seemed a little far-fetched to me but sounds plausible now.
