Keeping a White Car Clean

Featured Replies

How easy is it? I'm 95% certain I'll be getting a white Fabia vRS estate. When I get it I will be claying, polishing, sealing and waxing. For those who have white cars how often do you clean it and how easy it to do?

I'll be using Collinite 476s since it lasted ages on my parents car but as for polish I'm not sure. I've used SRP for years but someone once told me its a bit too harsh for a new car. What else can I use instead? Any polishes especially good for white paints?

Thanks in advance

Although I don't own a white car you can keep on top of them with good prep and protection, which sounds like what you will be doing.

Your main problem factor's will be the constant tar deposits you will see on the car, removing these is fine but in most cases you will remove your protection so it will be a constant battle, also depends how OCD you are.............

You only need to use a polish to either remove or fill swirls and scratches, SRP contains filler's so will do what it says on the tin, I assume that you would be applying such a polish by hand?

I'm out there weekly. Get some AS Tardis for the tar spots.

Good prep and waxing with a few coats makes it easy to keep clean.

Also White cars don't show the dust as easily as dark colours so it will look clean for longer.

Yeah polishing by hand. So do I need to polish at all on a new car or will a wash, clay, seal and wax be fine?

Depends on the condition of the car and how well or badly it's been prepped, only you can really make this decision when you see it to be honest and again, depends how OCD you are.......... :|

Oh I'll need a good wheel sealant too.

Oh I'll need a good wheel sealant too.

If you have 476s then you could use that, or look to invest in FK1000P as this is also good on wheels and paintwork, if your feeling flush then I would recommend CG Jetseal 109 again, excellent on wheels and paintwork........

I have a white vRS Octy

Polish = CG P40

Wax = Harly Wax

P40 cleans the paintwork nicley

Harly wax applied very light makes it easy off..

Plenty of beading and nice shine

I tried all sorts of Other stuff

This is the first time in 7 months I have seen it looking really well

From memories of when I had a white car back in the 80s, you need to be careful if you park under trees. When the birds start eating berries in the autumn, their **** can turn red or purple and that's very difficult to remove completely from white paint unless you attack it immediately.

Perhaps modern paint sealants will help now??

Chris

just collected my white octy vrs and interested in your opinions on this topic.

what clay bar would you use?

is CG Jetseal 109 the best then after claying to seal?

cheers

Is it brand new or second hand? I would suggest a light cutting clay really, most traders sell similar re-branded clay so a 'fine poly' clay would be my suggestion as you want to reduce the risk of marring with clay as this will be difficult to get out without a machine...........

As with many things it's all down to opinion, Jetseal is pretty bomb proof but you could use a cheaper wax that will do the same job but maybe not be as durable. For lighter coloured cars some people rave about Jeff's products.......

I normally use Meguiars Quik Clay which has been good. Is this still fine to use?

Megs Quik Clay is very soft so this is fine to use, you will struggle to induce marring with that grade of clay.......

brand new Baker21.

so meguires clay, then CG Jetseal 109.

will check out prices.

cheers

just washed my car tonight with mer shampoo i had, then applied a coat of mer polish on it.

was extremely difficult being on a white car trying to see where i had done already.

vectra1, the 2 products you recommended, how easy was it to apply and is the polish white?

what is the best stuff for cleaning outside of windows and mirrors?

also cleaning the inside of windows that had been tinted?

cheers

Hi bud.

The P40 is simple to use.

Rub it in..Wipe it off.

With the wax I use ( Harly wax)

I made the mistake of applying too thick a coat and had a hard job getting it off.

Now I do 2 panels at a time and use very thin coats..buff it off. Again very easy IF applied sparingly.

Two coats of this wax and Car now looks good,

I am considering getting some Collonite 476 next as durability sounds good but will be difficult to get me away from the Harly Wax as I like it.

As for the windows.

Hard to beat Mr.Muscle window cleaner emoticon-0148-yes.gif

For something that is easily accessable then AG Fast Glass is good, I personally use Megs Glass Cleaner (Bulk) but a key part of this is to use the correct Glass Cleaning Cloths.......

Harly Wax is a good Wax and you will find 476s similar in terms of application but the durability is a lot better, the other option is to try FK1000P and you will end up with a similar sized tin to that of the Harly Wax......

thanks guys,

is glass cleaner ok for the inside of the windows?

i have just recently got them tinted?

thanks again guys

Sorry I missed that point, doesn't make any difference so no worries.......

Yes, I was looking at the 476 for durability., How is durability with the FK1000P?

I always thought it was a spray

476s and FK1000P are very similar, only difference in most cases is that you get a larger tin with the FK1000P and it's cheaper, durability is about the same to be honest..........

...................does a polish either removes or fills swirls and scratches or does it als help in shining a cars paint

.......once the car is polished should it be rinsed and should their be a waiting time before aplying glase/sealant or wax this also applies to sealants and waxes should there be a waiting time before applying these
