Keeping a White Car Clean

Featured Replies

...................does a polish either removes or fills swirls and scratches or does it als help in shining a cars paint

.......once the car is polished should it be rinsed and should their be a waiting time before aplying glase/sealant or wax this also applies to sealants and waxes should there be a waiting time before applying these

A polish can do both fill and remove swirls depending on the product and also the application.

Depending on the process rinsing is a good idea to remove any 'dusting' but again this can be product specific, you can apply a glaze, sealant or wax in most cases straight away but sorry to say again this is product specific as they will all recommend 'the best' application conditions........ :|

Fingers crossed in less than a month I could finally have my new car on the drive. As it's a white estate i'm looking at some prep work to stop the birds and the trees causing too much hardship later on.

I'm thinking of; Dodo Juice Born to be Mild Shampoo, Turtle Wax Ice Synthetic Paste and Poorboys Wheel Sealant.

I don't really want to clay the car to start with, as I'd rather not use anything too abrasive from the off. Never used clay before and bit nervous to be throwing it on a brand new car. I do want to protect it however. Will I need to apply a wax sealant like Poorboys Nattys Paste Wax over the Ice Paste?

First Superb Sahara Beige hardly showed dirt, second Rosso Brunello B*****d to keep half decent, third Cappuccino dry dirt hardly noticable wet shows a little more. Polish used AG HD Wax left over from previous cars, two coats normal hose pressure removes 90% of dirt then an easy shampoo to finish. Still beading nicely after 6 months.

Thought I'd just add to this thread instead of making a new one. Detailing the new car was straightforward. Didn't need to polish but did need to clay the back end. Sealed with AG Extra Gloss Protection and used Collinite 476s for wax which gave me good results.

I need new shampoo after my AG stuff has run out and did some across Dodo Juice Born to Be Mild which is supposed to be good as it doesn't remove waxes but is expensive. Where's the cheapest place to get it and how long does it last? I also need a good drying towel.

Is there anything else I could be using? I've heard talk of glazes and detailing sprays but not sure what they do and if they're worth it and at what stage I should be using them. Also, a bit of a noob question but is it fine to reapply wax after washes? I've yet to do it but I assume it fine?

i think the cheapest place for btbm is cleanyourcar but i could be wrong. personally i would try Britemax cleanmax shampoo. it's 10.99 for 32oz an it takes 1 oz per 15 litres. if your not too fussed on labels and want it a bit cheaper you can get the old stock for a bit less http://www.i4detailing.co.uk/acatalog/Special_Offers.html. been getting good reviews as well Britemax cleanmax review detailing world

If you check out the dedicated detailing forums, I'm sure they'll all confirm that it's all in the preparation. When I first used clay I was a little worried, but I think it is a must to prep your car as much as possible, You'll be amazed what comes off even if you think the car is perfectly clean. When you apply sealent and or wax you're simply covering whatever is already on your paint.

I've just invested in a machine polisher ready for my vRS delivery white with black roof, this will get a clay, polish, sealent and then wax on roof only, a lot of research suggests that wax on white paint looses some of the sharpness that is key on a white car.

There are so many products out there, I'm sure with little difference in the results, so prep is king! Hope my 2p helps

NP. glad you like it, a little of it does go a long way. i tend to just put a capful in as i only use 5L buckets. i've got the bigger tub of it and at this rate it should last me about 2 years.
