PD136 vs PD140

Featured Replies

I've had my old 2004 PD140 (103KW) for about five years now, and she still rips along - beautiful burst of power right up into 6th gear, that does give you a bit of a shove into your seat. If you've got one, you'll know what I mean. But she's getting long in the tooth at 250,000km, and it's time to relegate her to number two position, so I picked up a 2008 PD136, basically (I thought) the same car. And I was disappointed. She doesn't kick you in the backside, even in low gear, and in high gear, it's almost as though she's out of breath. The 140 always gives a bit of a leap, even at high speed, when you bang the accelerator down suddenly, while this new one just seems to wheeze. I'm tempted to say that it's because the previous owner just drove it round too gently and it's got lazy, but I'm interested to know if anybody else has an opinion on the subject... I drove both today, the 140 first, then the 136, and I could tell the difference even if my wife couldn't!

If I remember correctly the 140 is a 16 valve motor and the 136 is an 8 valve motor, possibly with the DPF, you'd know for sure by looking at the build sticker. 7GG means DPF fitted, 0GG means not.

B.....! That'll teach me to do my homework. It doesn't have a DPF - small mercies - but even my pet ex-Skoda dealer didn't know about the difference in number of valves. You'd have thought he would have. French...

Edit - Done some homework. The AZV engine (checked the build sticker IS a 16v, without DPF. My early one appears to be a BKD, but as it's in the shop I can't check. Both types appear to give 320NM.

Is this a French spec car? AFAIK the PD136 AZV was never fitted to the Octy in the UK.

We still got the PD140 BKD until late 2010 when it was replaced by the CR.

That's right. I wonder why they never sent the AZV to the UK - again, something I didn't know. Lucky UK!
