GAP Insurance and Servicing Plans

Featured Replies

Depends how you've financed it. If it's a loan that isnt secured on the car than yes. If it's on a PCP or HP agreement (which is secured on a specific vehicle) then probably not.

I'm puzzled by this - do you mean if you're purchasing a car on HP it's not worth having GAP insurance? I thought normally you were still liable to pay the finance amount regardless - am I wrong?

Just out of interest has anybody used click4gap before? I've heard they're pretty good and much cheaper than the dealer prices...

No I meant that if you have purchased the car on a HP agreement you couldnt just take the insurance pay out, buy a replacement car and keep paying your finance repayments. A HP agreement is secured on a particular car and as soon as it is no longer in your ownership (ie you sell it/scrap it/written of etc) the full balance becomes payable.

Ah makes much more sense. Must be the sun getting to my head. I thought I better check before I get gap insurance on my HP financed car though...

Glad this topic came up as I was looking at the maintenance plans today. It's actually cheaper for me to get a service and maintenance plan on my coming vRS than it was on my old 1.4 Ibiza (seems crazy to me!). I can see it being affordable as I factored up to a certain price for the vRS on HP and the S/M plan takes it to my limit. Also the S/M plan will look after the wear and tear parts of the car (brakes would be my worry, I know they shouldn't go but depends how hard you drive it).

For gap insurance, looking on the net Surf & Protect & Click4Gap seem to be quite well priced.

http://www.car2cover.co.uk seem to be pretty decent

* We do not exclude theft of vehicle with use of keys, a regular form of theft now, dont buy gap without it !

* All gap insurances end when you make a claim, but we will provide a FREE new policy for the remaining period !

* We cover up to £250 of your motor insurance policy excess,

* Our policies pay out up to 110% of Glasses Guide value at time of purchase, see terms and conditions,*1

* car2cover RTI & VRI policies are currently unique in that you can transfer your policy to your next vehicle*,

Quite a few good benefits there that I know a lot of policies DON'T give you. I will be buying my cover from them

How does Skoda's GAP compare to these, anyone?
