Feel The Power

Featured Replies

Well I took my vRS in today to have it's electric window fixed.

Unfortunately the wrong part arrived for it so I won't be seeing her for a couple of days :(

Still I now have a courtesy car, 1.4 (68hp) Fabia. Pretty much on a par power wise with my old car... 1.3 fiesta. Forgot what it's like to stand on the accelerator peddle and still be stationary :)

Will be interesting when I get onto the A3 tomorrow

Keep an eye out, I'll be wearing 'HL Austin' stripes! Don't think they make the car faster though.

 One reason why I refused to get a Fabia with less than 100HP, diesel or petrol.

I take it thats the 8 valve 1400?....so what does the 16V one push out (Dmac , already thinking of his next car , before hes even traded in the vRS...)

16V = 100HP - same as my TDI

Ahh that sounds ok , only 3BHP down on the MGZR 1400 engine!

Hmm. Exactly the same BHP as the 1.9 but rather less torque. I'd still prefer the diesel even though the petrol is whisper quiet. The TDi is supposed to be rather more than 100bhp as standard anyway, rumour has it that it is around 110bhp. Oh and does anybody else think that the Skoda's 0-62 times for the Fabia are a bit off? I mean the SDi Fabia is a second slower than the SDi Octavia and thats a much bigger car! The TDi Fabia is around about 12 secs too but I think it feels substantially faster than that also. After all there is some controversy with Skoda times after Autocar's chipped vRS effort!

I have to agree here. Before I got my alloys, I could consistently get 0-60 times of between 10 and 10.5 seconds. This is at least a second quicker than the quoted 11.6 my car came with. I would not be surprised if my BHP was a little over 100BHP. I'd like to think so. :D

Well, I managed a 0 to 60 dash today... sadly the stop clock battery ran out before I hit 60 :)

But seriously, I am pretty impressed with the handling of the FABIA it is definitely sure footed even the tiny 8v 1.4 Classic.

Imagine the Fabia vRS will be a whole lotta fun, esp iff they decide to stick the 1.8T in there at some point.

The Fabia 1.4 8v Classic is a beauty compared to the Corsa Club 1.0 12v! Haven't managed

to get it over 65mph yet without it feeling like it's going to shake itself to pieces... :(

It'll reach 60 eventually. I've been pleased with the cornering / handling of my Fabia since the day I first got it. I just wish it would be a bit quicker. :( Glad to see even the basic engines have the same handling qualities (Doh! Of course it would being the same car...)

I had a Fabia TDi as a loan car, and was really impressed with the performance. HUGE torque. First diesel I ever drove that flashed it's ASR light!

I often get that ASR light buzzing a bit. The other day I even got a "bit" of wheelspin de-clutching in 2nd gear. Took me by surprise, because I only normally get good spin going off in 1st from a standing start. Torque is very good, pulls away from 1000RPM in just about any gear without so much as a moan!

I can get 3rd gear from 1000RPM, doing 20mph, up to nearly 5000RPM, doing 80mph. A lovely gear to be in. :drive1:

cant wait for the "run" tonight ...can i come in your car:D

If we co-ordinate it right, we should have a "courtesy car" run on a thursday night, bring the worst \ wifes \ whatever car and see if we still enjoy the run as much.

We did have a Nissan Almera "sprint" join us one week, but we did have to keep waiting for him rather a lot.

(not that we mind waiting for slower cars, it's just we'd just started our second drink when he turned up so we could set off again ;))

cool can i bring the Samara?

You think I'm going to drive the Corsa more than I have too?! It's like being constipated - lots

of strain for little result!

Also, somewhat annoyingly, the hire company are running it on an "empty out, empty in" service,

so I need to time it just right so I don't give them back any petrol... ;)

Rob.

wuss, we not seeing you tonight then?

Sure you are - I'd class that as essential driving. :D

Rob.

dont worry rob... if the effect of drving the corsa is too much for you... Ian will be here in his emergency vehicle to offer support humor and abuse, although not in that order!
