How do you remove and refit the central locking rocker switch?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've just got my hands on my new pride and joy, a nice Octavia VRS estate (2007), and there are a couple of little annoying cosmetic things that I want to sort out. Most I can sort without an issue, however, the central locking rocker switch in the middle of the centre console is sat incorrectly and, therefore, doesn't operate as smoothly as it should. It seems to be unseated on 1 side. How can I reseat it, I have tried the simple, just push it down until it clips in place, to no avail. I have also tried, gently, to lever the switch up and out so that I can start again. I have to admit to not doing this with much conviction as I don't want to break it. Has anyone any advice, is it just a case of slipping a nice small screw driver under the edge and prizing it up or will that break it? How do I get it to seat properly?

Any advice would be greatfully received.

IIRC you can access it by removing the side (upholstered) panel-there is one screw near the front of the car that needs to be undone, then the panel pulls off-it's only velcro'd on! This should allow you to pop it up from beneath to sort.

Strange thing to happen though, unless it's been out for some other reason.

Thanks for the pointer. Looks like the switch was dislodged down into the centre console. Only needed a bit of a push up to clip back in place. Someone must have a bit viggerous in locking the car at some point to push it down that much.

Thanks,

They can start to play up and require more and more force to operate. Check that it operates opening and closing without needing to the pressed too hard. Also note that the paint can peel off over time if used often. I put a piece clear tape over mine after I replaced it on my previous Octavia and again when i got my new car, but I now have auto locking enabled so dont need to use it so much.

I find this switch very unresponsive on mine, needs a good few pushes before it works. It's been like that since I bought the car at 22K but not seen any ways to improve it but will keep an eye on this topic to see how you get on.

This is one of the very few things I hate with my car! What a stupid place to put a rocker switch, on a horizontal surface beside a cupholder. The switch gets gummed up very easily, which leads to excessive force being used to operate it which in turn leads to the switch dismounting. As already said, remove passenger side carpeted panel and slip a flat blade screwdriver in to pop switch back in to place. However, if the switch is gummed up, you'll just end up pushing it back in next time you have to use it. Whoever in Skoda designed that switch and placed it there should be taken around the back of the factory and given a swift kick in the nuts.

or as I like to call it "The Ghetto Button"...... :giggle:

Is it easy to get to this by pulling up the gear gaiter?
