Pikey short shift quick mod

Featured Replies

I've had the TTS short shifter on my VRS for a good while now, but always wanted to do something about the length of the actual gearstick. So at lunchtime I swallowed some brave pills, lifted up the gaitor, unclipped the gearknob and removed, then fetched the bolt cutters.... :o

Two seconds later I had a gearstick about 35mm shorter, and then it was a case of 'see can I put it back together again' :giggle:

And yes, with a few thumps, the gearknob slid all the way down...a good crimp with a tile snips on the original clip, and all is dandy!!

Apologies if this has been done before, but I'm quite chuffed with myself :)

You are truely mental!

Interesting that the gater surround and ashtray cover are silver, is that 'Paddy' spec or have you sprayed the bits in another moment of skodaphile madness.....?

Brutal, but if you're happy with the result then emoticon-0148-yes.gif

A fair few of the Fabia guys have done the same thing.

Mental I be.

The silver bits are painted, yes-used a trade range of plastic coatings called Bradleys-they specialise in smart repair supplies. Prepped, primed twice (primer also has a filler in it to give a smooth finish), sanded with some 2000 wet & dry, then painted. The shiny bit was masked carefully and cleaned off afterwards with some thinners.

Genuine bits were about £70 IIRC :o

Paddy spec FTW!!!

FTW??

what are your recommendations for the short shifter ??

I would like to go for it ....but I have heard that the length between N and 4th gear is uncomfortably short and it causes shifting problems !!!!!

is this true ?

I had a short shifter on my vRS for 40k miles.

Never ever had a problem with it
